These people are selfish and irrational.. They think bayless was wrong on stopping the fight . fukk them.. they don't understand the risk and don't respect fighters...
Bayless did the best decision...
The thing is if you don't want to fight and are taking a one sided beating the ref should stop it. It was a very good stoppage.
it should have been the corner's decision. once cotto was doing his bicycle, it must have been clear to them that their fighter is in survival mode. this clearly shows that inexperienced corner can be scary!!!!
you cannot fault the ref's as he was only giving cotto every ounce of a chance to turn the tide.
You're right, the referee should stop it, but the problem is he didn't when he needed to. Why wait until the 12th to do so? If you're not going to do it properly and let Cotto take punishment through all those late rounds, at least let him finish. Just bad judgement in that fight.
The thing is that they should have stopped it earlier. They waited until the 12th to do so, so the least they could've done is let Cotto finish it. It makes any kind of effort from Cotto to stay in the fight after round 9 meaningless.
People are upset because of when he stopped it. The fight should of been stopped during the 9th or the 10th. But he kept it going giving Cotto a chance to finish the fight without a ko loss on his record. about a min in the 12th he stops the fight on a punch that wasnt anything different we saw in rouns 9-11. Cotto was trying to survive and he took that away from Cotto at the same time let Cotto take an unnecessary beating.
first it was cottos wife wanting him to stop,
then it was his father,
and cotto even admitted wanting to quit at 11,
and on 12 he was just bouncing around and getting hit.
he just did his fans a favor by continuing.
but thats what the referee is in for. for the welfare of the fighters.
stoppage or not, cotto was well behind in the scorecards.
Tell that to the Z Gorrez Family!!!
I didn't say the referee shouldn't have stopped it but it was the wrong time. He let Cotto take an unnecessary beating for the last couple of rounds and stopped it the in the last round when Cotto was backing up and avoiding all the punishment for the most part.
He seemed indecisive to me.
He could have and should have stopped the fight earlier, He allowed Cotto to continue because he wanted to give cotto every chance at coming back but cotto's corner should have got him out of there.
I think it was a bad stoppage, not because it was early by any means but because he stopped it at the wrong time. Cotto was in no real trouble when Bayless stepped in.

The fight could have been stopped way before possibly the 9th. I can tell you if you put it into perspective then why let him go on then stop it in the 12th round after he took a beating like that? He let him go for 3 more rounds then he should have so why pull him out the 12th?????
Because he can, and it's the right decision.
It's easy for you to say that because it's not your face that's getting beaten to a pulp.
Although i thought Cotto could of lasted the distance, i don't think Bayless stopping the fight was a bad move.
Cotto was constantly retreating, wasn't throwing and his face was badly beat up.
There was no point in the fight continuing.

Cotto's corner should have stopped it once it was clear he was just surviving and had no chance to win the fight. Bayless had plenty of other opportunities where he could have stopped the fight without issue, he gave Cotto the benefit of the doubt.

Anybody who disagrees with Bayless decision or your post is a moron. Having said that, I think he was indirectly guided by Pac to stop the action. Not just the punishment he was dishing out, but Pac was visably frustrated at having to chase Miguel down - he gave Bayless a look as if to say ''are you gonna warn this guys about running'' then Pac unleashed another barrage and Kenny jumped in.
Good decision though, forgeting Miguels health for a second it was embarrasing watching him running away.
