First of all I'd like to congratulate Pacquiao for beating the hell out of Cotto in their fight. I had picked Cotto to win but it was clear who was the better fighter that night and any other night for that matter. However I have a beef with the claim of having won a 147 title when they fought at a 145 top weight. I really don't think it would've made a big difference in the outcome but if Pacquiao/Roach wanted a title @ 147 they should've fought at 147. Even if both parts agreed to the terms the WBO simply had to refuse to give a title to someone who fought at a different weight. Once again, I'm not hating on Pac. I love the guy and he's definitely an all time great but I won't recognize him as a 147 champion until he actually wins a championship fight at 147.
Another idiot. When will your kind vanish? :pat:
141-147 is WW. If you can't understand this, go "peeleft: on yourself.
*sigh* it's even funny i have to repeat this again. Let me try and explain it in terms you can grasp. Welterweight 141-147. Last night's fight 141-145. If you can't see it don't give up. One day, with proper training, your IQ will equal a chimp's
Roach actually confirmed before the weigh-in that he would've allowed the fight to go onn even if Cotto would not have made the catch weight, but he would have to pay the penalty. He was that confident of Pac beating Cotto.
Right, it would've made no difference in my opinion. Pac was just too much, he was much better, faster, stronger than Cotto so no argument there. Cotto can't beat pac in a million fights.

Since everyone else on the planet also told you that you're wrong, I will too. 147 is the welterweight limit, meaning you can't weigh over 147.
So there, you're wrong.
It seems that the concept of weight limits is too much for your brain to process. Welterweight limit is 147!!!!! NOT 145!!! any welterweight championship fight should have a limit of 147!!! Is that such a hard concept to understand? Sure you can go into the fight at 141 if you want and win but that is your choice. Cotto was forced to have a weight limit of 145 instead of 147 simple as that and that, in my book, is NOT a legitimate welterweight title fight. He got pwned but that still doesn't change the fact they broke the rules of the division for money.

it is what it is.
7th.
Pacquiao didn't have to come at 147 but cotto or any other champion shouldn't have been forced to go below 147 which IS the welterweight limit. Had cotto weighed 147 instead of 145 freddy may not have allowed the fight to go on.

acually its 5 major in 5 divisions. ring mag, IBO etc aint major titles. only the 4 main belts count towards being a champion of the weight. and pac getting a ww title @145 is fine, but a bit cheap.

5 division world titles and 2 linear division titles
7 is legit. He's the real thing.
Actually, it's 6 division world titles and 4 lineal division titles.
You can have an alphabelt and also be the acknowledged lineal champ at the same time. Pac took Barrera's lineal title who didn't have an alphabelt (because MAB ditched his WBC strap), that's why some people claim it should only be a 6 division feat for Pac, but when you're considered lineal, that means you're the ultimate champ of the division, so in all sense of the word Pac was the true champ when he destroyed Barrera and claimed his Ring Belt.
But you're right with 7 legit. I put more stock on those 4 lineal titles though. It's another 1st in boxing.
Really people
First and foremost I would like to say that Manny is so deserving of that win and title, coming in even under the contract weight, and being able to keep up/ supress Cotto most of the fight. He deserves the 7 time champ title, he fullfilled his duty, and even gave us all something to talk about. It's still pretty amazing what a great little man did to a well versed and appropriately sized walterweight fighter such as Cotto. Pacquiao took what cottonhad to dish out and still emerged glorious and a champion for that matter. For someone his stature to fight someone in their natural weight is pretty amazing. Cheers to Manny and his camp, shame on Cotto's corner for not stepping in to preserve their fighter. But all and all a pretty damn impressive performance from both athletes, definitely a joy to see.
Okay, so let's make all title fights catch weight fights, next fight should be at 143 pounds, but he will still be considered 147 lbs, pardon, WW champion.
Why not? If BOTH parties agree w/ it.......
Understand limit?
Anything from 141-147 is welter weight.

WW limit is 147, not 145. So real WW fight is at 147, this fight was catch-weight fight.
And Pacman won his 6th belt, but that doesn't make you a division champion, it makes you a belt holder (Mosley is the champion, and he won title at real WW limit). Same thing with ODLH at 160. He got the belt, but everyone knows that B-Hop was the champion. Pacman wasn't even ranked before WBO decided to earn some extra money.

Right?!

Even if? 2 pounds really make that much of a difference? Point blank Pacquiao owned Cotto. I'm totally a pacquiao supporter, but Cotto's camp should have stopped that fight @ the 10th. It was just an onslaught after the ninth, what a rookie ass move by Santiago. But not for nothing, Pacquiao owned and deserved that fight and win.
5 major titles and 2 minor belts (barrera and hatton)
That made him 7 x world champion not ti mention hos 4 lineal belts..
What's ironic is that Barrera and Hatton are two of his biggest wins. I mean they were THE men in their divisions and Pac took them apart.
Okay, so Manny can defend his belt at 141 lbs and still be legit ww belt holder? Great!
And why insults? If you can't write in a polite manner, don't write at all.
We have hundred topics about the fight, same thing discussed all over again, so why can't we have this one.
If everyone involved agree with it, he could defend it at 140.5 and still call it a ww title fight.
lets end this thread:
Not hating but your claim is bullshit. Welterweight is anywhere from over 140 pounds to 147 pounds. Pacquiao or any other fighter for that matter doesnt need to come in at the maximum weight for it to be considered a certified fight in that division.. thats why they have 7 pound increments. The fight was fought at the welterweight limit.. period.
