his corner is an embarrassment to the sport, and to a great fighter in cotto...
im a pac fan, and believe he would have won the fight anyways, but why did cotto's corner not tell his ass to throw the jab which was so effective in the first round?
maybe that's why amateur hour trainers are not such a good idea for mega fights...
if cotto throws his jab for 12 rounds, he has a legit shot to win this fight...im not making excuses, because im a pac fan anyways...but as a boxing fan i just dont understand why cotto's corner was so interested in seeing cotto's face bashed in with inside bombs...
excuse me....... what?????
Mark my word, Dundee will never, ever pick Pacquiao, even if he's against a tomato can. Pacman made him look like he doesn't know anything about boxing. He picked Oscar (obviously), picked Hatton again ( if poker has a steam pick, that's his steam pick), and now Cotto, he's running out of picks and time.
There's no question that Dundee is one of the great trainers of all time, but he's way past his prime in picking fights, specially if Pacman is on it...
not really...cotto stopped throwing the jab...
i give pac all the credit he deserves, but he didnt take away shit...he just landed inside bombs well after cotto stopped throwing the jab...
watch the fight again if you want...because thats what happened...
I agree here, Not to discredit Pac Man this is a huge win for him, very impressive, but I was wondering why Cotto stoped throwing his jab it was clearly his most effective punch. Not that it would of changed the outcome of the fight but It would of been closer.
Roach was only telling the truth when he said Santiago was too green for a mega fight like this...
But Santiago took it personally and tried to sneak in a verbal jab, Roach had him even backing up at the weigh in
truth be told, santiago isnt really a trainer, and like Roach said, Cotto was the head of the camp. Miguel said himself Santiago is good at knowing his role, which looks like is just pad work, and maybe motivating. Santiago wouldnt be telling Cotto what mistakes he's making, or what he needs to adjust on. Instead, he was just doing horrible pad work and being a yes man.
And like I said before, their pad work was atrocious. They had a certain cadence that was very predicable and it looked like Cotto was used to it. Santiago always hovered over cotto when he was throwing hooks inentionally missing, only problem is Manny wouldnt do the same. The fault is ultimately Cotto's for picking his team. He needs a real trainer, someone to tell it like it is, and not a "sports nutritionist like Santiago.
thats why boxers have men in their corner...amateur hour cotto trainer didnt even mention the jab but once...
sad...
Do you think roash will want to train Cotto after this??
Speaking of Dundee, when will he ever learn? I know he's old school and once you're on the other side of the fence and fighting "his" boxer, you'll be his enemy forever, but daym! Pacquiao makes him look like he doesn't know boxing at all...
and forget Oscar, he doesn't know what hit him and he's still in denial stage! LMAO!!!
excuse me....... what?????
I don't think it will make a difference even if Angelo Dundee or Futch is in Cotto's corner.

Pacquiao was coming over the jab with his right hand and was shooting straight left hands down the middle when Cotto threw his jab, he was also timing Cotto's jab so that he punched when Cotto punched knowing that he would get there first because he had the faster hands. He also started picking off the jabs with his gloves, some still got through but the success of the jab dropped off big time after the first. Pacquiao took it away.
Trainers can only do so much. This is a 1v1 sport. Sure, it's good to have someone in the corner to give you tips when your down, but at the same time, Cotto should of execpted this. And like I said before, a lot of people said this fight was Power vs Speed, but I truly believe, Manny has just as much power as Cotto, maybe even more.
it is a 1v1 sport, as you say...sure...
unfortunately for cotto, pacquiao had a very good gameplan once cotto stopped throwing his jab, and cotto resorted to trying to outspeed a powerful speed boxer on the inside...
if cotto or his trainer thought cotto could go toe-to-toe with manny and win an inside brawl, i really want to know what kind of weed they have in puerto rico...or why they cant afford HBO videotape of any of manny's previous fights...
Isnt his trainer a former assistant? I think this is one of those situation were he gave his homey the job and it cost him in the fight and I dont mean to say that it cost him the win, I believe they (his corner) put him in danger in the end when they send his ass back out there, a experienced trainer would have know the trouble he was in.
last time i heard his corner mention the jab was the second round...
my point is, if im cotto's trainer, i tell my fighter, "if you dont want to get you ass kicked, you throw the jab, ok?" or "if youre not going to use your jab, im calling this fight."
because that's exactly what the case was...and we all saw it...

cotto's corner said "the jab is working" after the first round...other than that, they didnt say one thing other than simple words of encouragement...i know they never mentioned the jab again after the second round...
i just feel bad for cotto, in a way...i know, he hired the douchebag trainer, but he still deserved better...
Gonna have to check it out again. He used it in spurts and it was landing, but I felt he could have thrown it more.
It's sad to see, that I was realizing Pacquiao's strategy before Cotto's corner. You know the strategy of letting Cotto throw the first minute or first half of the round, then jumping on him.
The 9th round was the best example of that. He could've used an experienced trainer instead of Santiago, don't think it would've changed much though.
I'm pretty sure i heard them tell Cotto to jab on a few occasions in the first 5 rounds.

it was a close fight until cotto forgot about the jab and let pac get inside and throw bombs at will...
like i said, i think pac wins this fight anyways...but cotto made this a very interesting fight until he forgot how to box, and his corner simply jerked off in his corner and fixed his cuts...
Close fight??? I gave two rounds to Cotto. And one of the rounds is me being generous.
I did hear them telling him about the jab at one point still early in the fight.
They were so shocked that Cotto could get and was getting hurt by Pacquiao's shots that they had no response. That is amateur level.

Pacquiao took the jab away from him really, after the first round he started picking them off for the most part and neutralized it.
really cotto just quit using his jab as he always does. Pac just baited cotto like a hungry fish.... Cotto's training camp, "**** the jab we going **** em up inside" stupid trainer

Il agree to that Cottos corner did not help him at all telling Cotto go one more round when you are seeing your fighter get beat like that should of stopped it.
