I don't think he can and maintain his strength. Sure he could dry out and fast and try to rehydrate after the weight in, but that has proven to be disasterous for fighters.
He can't make it but Pwills is a freak of Nature and probably could make 147 if he trains for it properly. Pwills trained for a 160 pound fight against Pavlik and thats why he didn't fight Martinez at 154.
that really doesnt make sense to me ... the fight means so much more at 154 and he claimed he walks around at about 165 in the pavlik presser so it wouldnt be a huge drop ... i dont think pwill can make 147 or will ever fight at 147 again ... and i think he made the fight at 160 more advantage
It's a shame, because he's better than everyone at that weight.
if he could make the weight comfortably why would he be fighting in a empty division instead of a loaded one with bigger fight in it? thats what makes me think he cant prob do it either ...
He says he can, but I have serious doubts. It's a serious amount of weight.
However, Joe Calzaghe and Michael Spinks used to shed serious amounts of weight, and they came out fine. It's most likely down to the individual and how gradual the loss is.
He seems like a big dude, I dont think he can, without taking something out of him. I mean, he gasses sometimes at 175!!!!
ya and hes comes in right at the limit in his last 2 fights not a couple under it ...
Tough call he looks pretty lean as it is so it might be hard weight to drop. He says he can but it probably best to just fight guys comming up from 168 then going down to meet them.
