kess would give him more than enought to think about, kess's own handspeed and footwork are exceptional, imo when kess's right hand detonates on dawsons chin hes gonna know hes in their with a smart, talented and in his prime fighter.
Your otherwise excellent memory fails this time. They didn't want a catchweight. They only wanted a fight for Dawson's belt. Today it appears strange that Dawson couldn't even drop a couple of lbs given that Dawson a couple months ago said he was willing to drop down to 168.
However that might be because the money suudenly exploded at SMW with the super 6 and it suddenly seemed worth the effort now that Dawson is running out of competition at 175 and all the 168 pounders are tied up in a long time.
I think I remember us going at it with two articles that said opposite things :lol1:
You may be right though. I don't see that fight happening anytime soon and it's fine - both have great opportunities to stamp their own imprint on the sport.
No. Dawson's team expressed a willingness to fight Kessler at 168. Back then, they were pretty desperate. And it was Kessler who turned the fight down, citing promotional issues.

I kind of agree. I'd rate him closer to great than very good, but certainly somewhere in between. He was well on his way, prior to the Watson rematch. Not sure if it was the lingering effects of that fight, his permanently campaigning at 168 or a combination of both, but he became a much different fighter after that.
I didn't read the entire thread, but how did it go from Dawson to Eubank (I'm guessing Calzaghe was mentioned somewhere in there?)
It always does, brother. Check out the who's the best LHW today thread. Anything that involves Kessler will always go back to that. At least Mikkel has an opportunity to carve his own niche in a couple weeks.
And most of the fans who talk about him didn't even watch him in his prime. Eubank was a very good fighter, at best.

beat the shit out of???no.....decision him? probably....bad match up for kessler
That's where I'm at.
Box the shit out of Kessler? Perhaps (I'd most certainly pick Dawson to win such a fight, at 168 and esp. 175). But Chad, even by his own admission, isn't beating the shit out of any top fighter.
He was alright, These boards didn't exist in is prime or anywhere close to it.

Everyone on that list is a bum besides Eubank and he wasn't that great either.
Prime Eubank was a god on these boards. The version Calzaghe fought is ranked a little below that.

It's possible. I just read about several different weights being discussed.
Battling Nelson knows as much as anyone on Kessler and his issues. He stated in this thread thread that a catchweight at 173 was turned down by Dawson.
Agree....Dawson would UD Kessler....I personally would like to see Dawson vs. Ward....Ward is the real deal....my opinion....2nd best "boxer" behind Floyd....:boxing:
Then he should have buried Pudwill via ko in the first rd.
Kessler doesnt get nearly the respect he deserves for having very good skills, good footwork, decent power,a solid chin and a big heart. He would give Dawson a really good fight, and I would pick Dawson to win,but it wouldnt be a walk in the park.
All super six know, but come 2011 the question will be - will Kessler retire ? Fights like Bute and Dawson would be great though !

Yeah, I think Dawson's size plays a factor head to head but I don't think it's as easy as everyone is saying it would be. We'll have a better idea after Kessler-Ward.
I'm not entirely sure, but Kessler's people wanted 168 or 172 because they felt Dawson was really a cruiserweight (he was 191 tonight, btw). Dawson's people wanted it at LHW.
It was something like that. Not entirely sure, there was several different weights and scenarios being discussed.

I'll go out on a limp here by stating, that all those who think that Dawson without a problem will beat Mikkel Kessler are either fanboys or haven't seen Dawson fight.
Dawson has (or at least had) little confidence in beating Kessler himself. Otherwise he wouldn't have turned down a catchweight fight at 173.
Exactly...
