Here's an excerpt from the Freddie Roach interview:
-----------
FanHouse: What was this about Miguel's trainer, Joe Santiago, and a trophy?
Roach: The thing is, the kid wants me to put up my trophy up that they gave me -- the best trainer trophy they gave me. The only reason he wants that trophy is because he's never fought before, so he's never even had a trophy.
I've got thousands of trophies. He can have that trophy, for Christ sakes. It's not going to make him a better trainer.

I know because that's all he does in the training vids. you can tell cotto is the boss and tells santiago how to do his job.
the strategy that they have planned out is probably all cotto and his pops. santiago has no real voice in anything.
like i said, he just holds the mits while cotto punches... his job description doesn't go any farther than that.
Actually the last video I saw of them working the gloves he was giving instructions to Cotto, they looked good and Cotto was far more active and faster . Something I noticed is Cotto wears big gloves many times when hitting the pads and sparring. You have to assume this is intentional and when he gets in the regular gloves the difference in speed is major.
he may be what Cotto needs but he defintely is less experienced than Roach hands down as far as experience goes. Doesnt mean he doesnt know his stuff though.
Cotto is probably training himself and taking Santiago on the ride. He doesn't really have experience training any one and who knows if Cotto will even take his advice
If Cotto ko Pac, Roach is going to look very stupid. He does not stop talking, I feel he is very insecure at this time, and he just don't shut up. He was trainer of the year, and now his fighter losses to a guy that has an unknown trainer. He is going to be with all this cake on his face.:burnout:

Assumptions
How do you exactly know that? Because Roach said it? Good research on your part. We do not know what kind of strategy they have planned during their camp to assume he is a shitty trainer

roach is right... all santiago does is holds the mits for cotto to punch. he's a a glorified moving punching bag. that is all.

No idea.
Even if Cotto won it might not tell us anything about Santiago. Miguel seems comfortable with him though, and that's a good sign (if he's in a good place mentally).

All I can say is that it was a bad decision for Cotto to be changing his trainor especially that he is fighting the P4P king Pacman. To make matter worst, Cotto the boxer is running the entire show which is a big mistake because it makes everybody around him a "yes man" just to please the boss.
Pacquiao by KO7.
It's hard to say if he's a good trainer, at the moment. He's only been Cotto's official trainer in the Clottey fight and, considering it was Clottey, it wasn't a walk in the park.
We'll see how Cotto does against Pacquiao.
