Why are some people so concerned with ticket sales, who's the biggest draw, etc?

Who honestly gives a f*ck except for maybe one or two Mayweather fans who get offended at the thought of someone possibly selling more tickets than him? Since when has ticket sales meant anything? As a FIGHT fan, it doesn't make me respect those who are selling the most tickets or PPV buys, just like I'm unlikely to be impressed by Britney Spears selling more tickets than a talented but completely unknown band. It happens all the time in music -- shitty "artists" selling billions of tickets while the ones who actually deserve great success are ignored. Is it just me who doesn't actually give a f*ck if Firepower sells more or less than Mayweather's last fight? Jesus. The reason sales and PPV numbers are talked about is because that is the reason why some fights don't get made and some get made. if you have a fighter who has bigger following of haters/huggers then his challenger, then the person with the biggest following gets the bigger piece of $$$. But when u got people like Bobfather who want the biggest piece of $$$ when he is in no position to declare the big piece....sales and PPV become huge. if you don't generate as much dollars or have a win over a fighter, u can't demand more $$$ than that fighter.

in fairness this type of talk has been going on for months with people talking about Mayweather's lackluster star power. It was almost a daily topic. Since Mayweather did great numbers in Sept that surprised many of his detractors, many of the same people who spearheaded the charge before say that sales are not important and no longer wish to talk about them. That tells me, they dont want us to judge Pacquiao with the same standards they were judging Mayweather!!!! **** THAT...I judging pacquiao with the same standards these PACholes... were judging mayweather before his jmm fight... I always roll my eyes when I hear people talking about ticket sales or PPV sales. Some of the biggest selling fights were very boring. Some of the best fights were free. I just want to see good, entertaining fights. And I think part of the reason there are still tickets left for Pacquiao-Cotto is because all the F*&king scalpers buy them and jack the prices up ten fold. Who would spend thousands of dollars for a seat that's only worth $150 at most. It makes me sick. I would have gone to quite a few fights if these guys didn't get there hands on the tickets before everyone else.

You would hope that whoever campaigns about who is "the most popular" boxer based on PPVs is somebody that is young, immature and doesn't know better yet. But to be fair, America does have a culture of celebrating celebrity and with that comes interest in how much money people have. Way before "Cribs" there was a show called "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" and that was very popular. Some hip-hop artists also made it popular to talk about how much money they got. Media shows do it as well. Then sometimes I wonder if people who "defend" or "protect" their favorite fighter to the point of borderline obsession are people who somehow think they are pleasing said fighter and somehow are distant "friends" because of this. I would say full obsession, some comments here in NSB are just plain ignorant.
