Movement and weak 1-2's won't beat Cotto anyway. Even if Jennings was on Clottey's level. Clottey's shell defense and precision made him difficult to beat.
What you don't seem to understand is that it's all relative, he looked faster against a slower fighter, Pac looked like a god against(and compared to) Diaz, does that mean he was slower against Marquez, or less skilled; No he was just facing a all around better fighter.
Like I said before. I wasn't looking at the opponents when comparing speed. I was looking at Cotto. That's what you're supposed to do when comparing a fighters attributes in one fight to the other.
Well it certainly seems like it. You bring up this opponent excuse again. It has nothing to do with it.
When I'm comparing the speed, I don't look at Jennings. I don't look at Clottey. I look at Cotto. I see a decrease in his punching speed.

You might not be trying to but that what happens, unless you can put the Cotto from the Jennings fight and the Cotto from the Clottey fight side by side. Cotto looks faster against the opponent not against himself.
I'm talking about the attributes of a fighter.
Using Pacquiao as an example is pointless. I'm not talking about Pacquiao. His attributes didn't decline. His speed and defense were the same in both fights. That's Pacquiao. This thread is about Cotto.
Look at Cotto alone. I'm saying that his punches were slower in the Clottey fight compared to the Jennings fight. SPEED. I'm also saying that his defense was not as good, as he didn't use much body movement.
You need to forget how his performance was against the fighters. I'm just talking about his attributes. Like when saying Ali was faster in his prime than he was past his prime. Or Tyson had better defense in the 80s compared to the 90s.

Yes, that's because Jennings is nowhere the fighter that Clottey is. Jennings made him look good.
Stop assuming that people didn't read the first post.

I was using Pac as an example of your faulty logic, if you want to discuss this like an adult then read both my posts and give me a better arguement then that, as of right now your not making sense.

By your logic Pac looked much faster and with a better defense against David Diaz then he did against Marquez, It's all about how skilled your opponent is and how much harder it is to do something against an elite fighter then it is to do it against a good one.
When did I even mention Pacquiao in this whole thread? I'm talking about Cotto.
Okay. Back now.
I don't know why people keep telling me that Clottey is better than Jennings. It's pretty obvious. I'm not talking about the comparison of how dominant he was in both fights. I'm talking about how his attributes were. Like speed and defense. Forget the opponents. Look at Cotto alone.
When I said that Cotto's punching speed was a lot faster in the Jennings fight, you said it's because Clottey was a better opponent. What does that have to do with it? Because his opponent is named Clottey his punching speed is reduced? It doesn't add up. Your speed is your speed. It has nothing to do with who you fight.
When I said defense wise he was better, it's because he had more body movement in the Jennings fight. If you're going to fight someone like Clottey, body moment is needed and I didn't see that much of it compared to when he fought Jennings. It's obvious that Clottey's punches are harder to block. I'm just saying that Cotto didn't use his body movement like he did in the Jennings fight. If you think that's not true then I don't know what to tell you.
How much you get hit varies. Cotto's style is the peek-a-boo style. That involves keeping your hands high (which he did in both fights) and good body moment (not so much in the Clottey fight). That's why I'm saying his defense was worse.

Maybe it has to due with his trainers? Santiago's first job of training Cotto was for the Clottey fight. Maybe Evangelista was better as the trainer.
Clottey has been a Contender for years. Who the hell is Jenny?

Maybe, but I have to say Cotto looked a lot better against Mosley than he did vs Clottey. After fighting Margarito he doesn't seem or look the same. I took a look at the Mosley, Cotto fight and he looked quick and strong. So quick that the announcers were saying he was quicker than Mosley and that his quickness was underestimated. If Cotto fought that day against Pac I think Cotto would have no trouble in taking him out.

During the Jennings fight Cotto fought at his pace.
In the Clottey fight both fights fought at there pace at times.
That was the difference.
Bottom line its was the quality of opponents. Clottey >>>> Jennings.
