Cotto by close decision. I love Tito, but the guy had 0 answer for a jab, absolutely none. Someone compared Tito to Marg which makes no sense whatsoever. Tito was knocked down in almost every major fight he had, and he started late just like Cotto. Sure, they might be similar in height but no way Tito took the kind of shots that Marg did. Cotto would be able to hit the body a bit more, and while Tito did stalk he didn't apply Margarito's type of pressure, and I think Cotto's shot would have kept him at bay. Tito was great but his biggest flaw was the jab and Cotto has arguably the best jab Tito ever would faced, if a fight happened.
Mosley and Mayweather probably the main 2 current welters that would give Tito trouble. They have great chins and, especially in Mayweathers case don't take as much punishment or hits as Cotto tends to.
I like Cotto, but Shane had two inches on him. Trinidad has four inches on this guy. Remember Vernon Forest vs Shane Mosely, Vernon wasn't even a huge puncher but he rocked shane because of leverage and power increase do to punching down. Tito has huge power and against a much shorter man with a shorter reach. Done and Done. If Cotto was 5-11 and not 5-7, he'd probably match what Vargas did. But I see that fight looking like the William Joppy fight.
Tito late, maybe 9th round, Cotto would be winning the fight becuase he can box, but Tito would just keep coming and Tito's stamina was rediculous. I say Tito KO's Cotto any round after the 8th..when Cotto starts to fade.
follow up question...
Who's a better boxer between these 2?
Trinidad was a better 47 pounder..He would had kill cotto in his time..Bigger puncher with a bigger heart and more pride..Trinidad by ko 6 rounds
Is Tito allowed to use 'Papa Trinidad's surprise'? Because if he is then it's Tito by KO.
However, the Cotto that came to the Margarito fight would have beaten Trinidad in my eyes.
Tito by brutal KO.
Seriously? Brutal?
I don't think so. Maybe it'd go the distance but not brutal.
Cotto is one hell of a power puncher as well.
I just don't know who has more power on the same weight.
tito's left hook was a game ender at 47...i think he catches cotto early to mid rounds and puts him to sleep
Trinidad normally took a few rounds to get going and I think Cotto's skills would give him a few problems, Cotto's jab would be able to throw Trinidad off balance as well, Trinidad used to put way too much weight on his front foot which meant that a good jab would offset him. But once Cotto starts fading like he normally does, it's game over.
Cotto is the better boxer, he might get off to a good start, hold a lead halfway through the fight but Trinidad would wear him down and eventually knock him out in about 8 or 9 rounds.
yea i think trinidad wins by ko somewhere in the fight. i mean trinindad was undefeated at welterweight...
