In this upcoming Cotto/Pac fight, it seems like both fighters have different dynamics going on in their camps.
Roach is still a strong presence and guide for Manny Pacquiao. Cotto has no such presence in his camp. Santiago is a pushover to Cotto.
Do you think Cotto is the type of fighter, like Floyd, that doesn't really need a trainer anymore, that basically trains himself? Or is it going to effect Cotto's preparation for the fight negatively?

Cotto has developed as a fighter because of his ring experience. His uncle nor Santiago can teach him anything new. Cotto is also very smart and already has his style. So, having someone like stewart in his corner would only result in more harm than good

He dosnt seem to think so, as we saw on 24/7 he just wants to hang out with friends leading up to the fight and run his own camp. his new "trainer" is in charge of jack squat.
Yes. Even though he connected to Shane Mosley, I'd love to see what Brother Nasheem could do with Cotto as far as strategy. I also think he'd work out some of the kinks in Cotto's defense.
exactly.
I think back to the Margarito fight. What if he had had a more aware trainer like Roach or Nazim Richardson? Strategy wise, not to mention catching the use of the plaster. That whole disaster could have been cut off at the pass.
Votes are pretty split down the middle now..
At the heart of it the question is..is Cotto a PBF type of fighter, that needs little to no direction? Because I tend to think he gives Santiago the directions, not the other way around

cotto pretty much trained his self under his uncle and has gotten this far.
And that is pretty amazing right there. But I do want to see Cotto with a good trainer. To see what he can accomplish. If Cotto loses to PAc I will definetly will blame it on this "bad trainer" situation
Sorry for my bad writing.
I don't know he do need a trainer or not. But he has done it for quite a while.
I don't know how he can do with a good trainner that can push him to the limit.
that is exactly my point. It seems like Cotto isn't reaching his full potential. He's like that kid in class that doesn't need to take notes, sleeps through some lectures, and still gets a A-B average on any tests or homework.

I think if Cotto loses, this will be the main reason, because he has all the tools to stop Pac.. Only way he'll lose is if he has the wrong gameplan..
Meanwhile Roach is sitting around watching footage, preparing Pac for Cotto's entire style and power.
