There's been a lot of steroid talk as of late (particularly aimed at Shane Mosley) and how fighters should be banned if they used it.
My question to those people, is there any proof that can be provided where a fighter had a edge in a fight by using steroids and was able to hurt the opponent much worse?
Please provide...
De La Hoya said Fernando Vargas was very strong at the beginning of the fight. He didn't think he could beat him, but as the fight progress De La Hoya kept using his technic and got to him
Isn't pretty much every fighter stronger earlier in a fight though?

Well, I've heard enrollment at U of G, University of Google, has had a major upswing lately, in the advanced, double time course, of course.
Grads are popping out at a rate of 200 a day.
i just got my diploma at university of tortilla.
LOL
back then, there were no steroid or PED experts we had nowadays :lol1:

Oh my goodness the differences are enormous, and if one is on roids and the other is not THAT IS CHEATING.
Good point but creatin does the samething and its not banned. I take NO Explode and cellmass. NO Explode helps you get that extra pump and rep and more fluint reps. Cellmass heals your muscles quicker and also helps you build faster. Muscle Milk does the samething. Myoplex again the samething. It helps you recover and stay active.
Now all the thing I just named riods do the samething. So if someone takes any of those or just creatine itself is that cheating? Its doing some of the samethings roids do. None of that is gonna work unless you go to the gym and work hard. I took both NO Explode and Cellmass and got very good results. My lifting weight went up within a week and I was maxing out by the end of the first month. Does that mean Im cheating when I step in the ring or in my case get onto the baseball field?

I've spent the last 5 minutes laughing at your sig.
keep it just case....also, dont forget weight drained
I admire Cotto, but I won't be one of the excuse makers. I am not going to jump the 'he could have won if' bandwagons. Certain things will not help him win like the catch-weight and I think the title being on the line is complete garbage, but if Cotto loses, so be it. I am solidly behind Cotto, and if he does lose I will continue to be a follower and admire him and his presence in the ring.
People who use them get a boost of energy, power and strength. They also manage to stay injured free. It all depends what you might be taking. but it helps their training a lot.
while others might have trouble getting lean into shape steroids makes it easier for those that use them. Being in shape takes self sacrifice , but steroids is a shortcut for it. But it will cause harm for those that used it in the long run. Anything not natural may cause harm to your body. Especially when used excessively.

It's in training that it helps, more so than the actual fight.

It all depends on the type you take. Not all roids just make you grow huge muscles and make you just beat down everything in sight. Some help with reflexes some help with muscle building. If you read up on BALCO you see that they had a variaty of things. But does it help you win fights? I dont know. Shit Mosley was steller in the first DLH fight. The second fight when he was on it. I still think he lost that fight. He had spurts but he was nowhere near the first fight.
Vargas took it and got the shit beat out of him as the fight went on. So he could have used a type that just makes you bigger and stronger. But for real I dont know if it gives you an edge. I mean Toney beats Ruiz steroids or not. But you look at Toney who has been testing positive. He said it was for his back but they wouldnt allow him to take it or let him fight if its an illeagal riod would they? But he looks like shit. Yes you need to put in just as more if not more work in the gym when your on it. You just dont take it and all your fat turns to muscle and you have no body fat. You need to still go at it. Honestly though I dont know if it helps you in a fight. I mean you look at the guys who have taken it in the sport and they all have losses. If your a pure boxer you can beat someone who is on it.
Of course steroids can help you, that's a stupid question. Just because DLH beat Vargas while on them, doesn't mean they don't help. It's just that Vargas on roids is still not as good as DLH.
They make you faster, stronger and help you to recuperate from injury better.
There is a reason athletes take steroids, it helps them....
They DO help in performance. They allow you to recover from physical exertion faster (which is a key ingredient in being a good boxer).
As mentioned, they don;t help your performance more so than they help you actually make it to the ring.
It's in that vein that James Toney was able to fight and beat Ruiz when he did. By his own admission, his shoulder would've never healed in time had he not taken a banned substance for no other reason than to speed up rehab in order to secure the Ruiz fight when he did.

The proof is contained in a little thing called "common sense".

I think steroids helps you being into shape and strong, but it won't help your technic. I not sure it help Vargas resistance, because he got knocked out, but it might of been the effects from his last lost to Trinidad in where he got k.O. at the end.
I honestly don't know if it helps a boxer. Vargas used it and got KO'd quicker...
Look at Shane Mosley. Now look when he used it against Oscar in the second fight. Now compare that on how he looked in the firtst fight when he didn't use. He was way better without it. He threw more combose and it look like he more agility without it. Now with it he looked stiff unable to throw combo's. So I am not sure how it helps...
But that's what I'm sayin, when do you just say, "(Fill in the blank) had a rough night"? There's no proof (at least that I can find) where a fighter using steroids propelled his strength and stamina in a fight where it was more than noticeable.
But again...if anyone can provide proof I'd really like to see it.
