why does he think he is "owed" a big fight at this point of his career. He calls out all these other big name boxers, and when they don't want to fight him, he considers them "ducking" him. I just feel he forgets that these boxers have earned their status by building their resume with quality opponents.
Floyd, Manny, Cotto, Mosley and other big name boxers had to go through quality opposition before the stars actually responded to their request for a fight with them. I guess Paul thinks he is above this.
Before Floyd got Oscar...he had to go through Corrales, Castillo, Gatti, Judah and other mid-level/ top contenders to atleast establish a name for himself. Same with Cotto and others.
I like Paul, but outside of Margarito who has he beaten? These are all quality guys that could help build his resume and better help his chances of landing a big fight. In fact all of these guys are more than willing to fight him.
Guys like:
Joshua Clottey
Sergio Martinez
Corey Spinks
Daniel Santos
Kermit Cintron
Felix Sturm @160
Not only do I think he beats those guys...but If he dominates them like I think he does, then he will get just about any big fight he wants.
He responded with a $650,000 offer for this Ghanian soccer player. And Clottey went in another direction. You look like a dumb ass now.
Err no. Clottey called out Williams after the Cotto fight. Williams as recently as last week said "Clottey doesnt bring anything to the table, im not interested in fighting him". So I was just going by what Williams himself said.
Correct. Williams did respond.......with a no.

I don't remember saying that but I hear you. But HBO flat out turned down Clottey versus Williams. No blame on either party there.
Martinez will be next, I agree. Can't get much better, to be honest.
I know you didn't say it. But, I was responding to Icetea? post... And, you then responded to my post that was meant for him. So I thought you felt the same way as Icetea...
I actually love Martinez-Williams IMO Williams will give a better fight than Pavlik...
Exactly but don't say that the Clottey call out means nothing cuz Arum didn't put the money up? That just made no sense...
More than likely P-Will is going to fight Martinez next. Goosen is going to be the main promoter and to my knowledge Dibella is not going to put any money up...

Why not Arum? The point is, we don't know.

I don't mind P-Will at 147. If he can make the weight then so be it. And, I agree that Shane should fight him. But, so should Floyd, Cotto, and whoever is campaigning at that weight. I just have a problem with everybody is singling Shane out. It makes no sense.
I also think P-Will is making it difficult on himself. If he campaigns at 1 weight like 154 and fights Martinez, Dzinziruk, Kirkland, Quintana, Clottey. His name will become bigger. Where fighters like Floyd, Cotto, Shane will have no choice but to fight him.
Great post
Thank you and I've always asked myself. If Cotto and Floyd won't fight Williams. Why does Mosley need to? 154 is Williams divison to rule. He also has fighters there who want to fight him in the Top 5

Did Arum put up any money for Clottey to fight Paul? If he did not, then Clottey's call out means shit. Nothing but hot air.
Why would Arum had to put money up? Goosen could of been the main promoter for the fight...

Just like Floyd should fight Shane and P-Will should fight Martinez...

The only thing that Paul Williams did that kind of turned me off as a fan was be difficult in the negotiations with Pavlik. But that is because he had some leverage to use because HBO was fed up with Pavlik. Other than that, the guy fights everybody who is willing.
Kelly Pavlik and Joshua Clottey (when he was IBF champ) both wanted to fight him and Williams turned both of them down... And now Sergio Martinez (who is the man 154) has been calling his name since August and Williams hasnt even aknowledged him... FOH Paul no body is ducking you
first off the pavlik fight was already set back in august and pwill would be stupid to fight martinez when pavlik was wanting to get it on!! Get Real!!!
I totally agree with this TS. and this is the only beef i got with him.
hell even Margarito went through hell to gets his shots(cheating or not)
Margarito's resume was worse than Paul Williams' resume is right now before he got his final big fight against Cotto. The best wins on Margarito's resume were Clottey and Martinez. Williams already has Margarito's scalp and a win over Winky Wright (inactive or not). It's still a win over a quality named opponent. Margarito fought like once or twice a year. Williams has fought a lot more often than that until this year. Pavlik is partly to thank for that.
