He's been spoon-fed average opponents with inflated records since he turned professional. The pillar-to-post beating that he got at the gloves of Prescott was a turning point in his career. He came back, yes, and even won an alphabet title. But, anyone can do that. He still has yet to impress me.
Overrated.
Because Pakistani communities are insular and Indian communities aren't.
It's a sweeping generality but indian communities are much better at absorbing into British society (so are the chineese and afro caribean) than the pakistani communities.
Personally (here comes another sweeping generality) I find all of the asian subcontinent peoples much more friendly than the eastern Europeans, but thats just personal experiance.
At school the indians where totally part of teh school but the small number of pakistani's pretty much stayed in theri own social group, and that was a common theme through out the area i grew up with from what I gathered.
Okay i get it, You mean they segregate themselves unlike indian origin who integrate with every culture...i think thats true when i think about it.
To be honest i cant tell who is who unless i ask them and i find indians more friendly or welcoming than people of pakistani origin, Just like i find caribbeans more hostile than african people but thats more own personal experience.
Off topic a bit but i dont get why some people over here hate people of pakistani origin and not people of indian origin??? Because i seem to know how they call everyone the P word even if they're not from there..
So why the hostility toward pakistani national and not indians so much???Because Pakistani communities are insular and Indian communities aren't.

Yeah i understand but that isnt what am getting at, my point was why call them the P word?? Why not the "I" word? why not indi why pak??
dunno but i think it was originally coined by the northerners
Yeah Cricket is the only sport the asian communities have really broken through, I don't think anyone would argue that monty panesar is anything othr than a well loved cricketing icon.
But as you say alot of the racism stems from 9/11 and monty is indian decent not pakistani.
There are Asian footballers but not from pakistan/india, Je Sun Park at man utd for example.
Yh theres like 2 in the premiership i could name....Park Ji Sung and Lee that plays for bolton....nakamura for celtic lol
And i dunno how the P word started....But any indian or pakistani...get called "pak1"..... to be honest, most people cant tell them apart...
But the word shouldnt be used....
I had an arguement with a boy in my class because he tried telling me the word "pak1" isnt as bad as the word "n1gger" what a fking cheek ... just cos he was black he thinks the racist word towards his race is worse....some people i will never understand what goes through their heads
erm, you realise the type of people who go around calling people "pakis" are hardly gonna run a background check before opening their mouth. anyone who looks remotely southern asian is a "****" to them

The origin of the P word.
Never thought about it.
Maybe it was used on purpose to piss of the Indians. Kinda like calling all Japanese or Korean people 'chinks'.
Yeah am still waiting for his explanation of how Khan got handed everything on a silver plate, Like Khan said nobody sees him waking up to go jugging at 5am or having to give up his life just to be dedicated to the sport.
all they see is the money, nice house, nice car etc they dont realise that nobody gives you anything without you working hard to get it, So maybe S.G can enlighten us but am not holding my breath though.
we've had this exact discussion before and it ended up in you throwing around flimsy accusations of racism with no genuine rebuttal
khan has had much more leg room career-wise than any other prospect or even any other olympian in britain and it's not because of some once in a lifetime prodigious talent because, as you yourself have conceded many times before, he's not even one of the best prospects in pro boxing right now. right place, right face, right time.
Well I don't know what it is like in England with race relations but don't they have any "asian" athletes or entertainers they like where they can relate?
What about Naz; how was the feeling with him?
Naz was a big favorite of mine although his confidence did stretch into inflated ego (although it was humerous and part of it did seem like showmanship to promote a fight).
Hamed was popular because he was a huge success. He won in style, he made boxing very entertaining, so people really liked him. He was also funny.
I was a big fan when i was a teenager, but im sure many older people hated his arrogance and dancing around.
There arent many asian celebrities in the UK. Most ethnics are black or mixed race.
There is also terrible problems between white and asian communities in the north of England.
Khan seems to take the brunt of the hostility.

who knows maybe it has to do with the war.

The difference is with naz, he was before 9/11 .... its AFTER 9/11 that all this racism and everything really kicked in...Thats why khan is now getting it all...
And no we dont really have any asian athletes...football is the biggest sport here and i cant think of 1 indian/pakistani player in the premiership...Nolberto Solano is probably the closest you will get to indian/pakistani and hes from peru lol

The thing is, Amir is not even like Tyson at 22 (years of age) where Tyson looked like a Man. And even Tyson, admitted that mentally he was not mature enough to handle being HW Champion; and even physically, he wasn't as strong as he was years later.
Khan looks like he will be one of those fighters that will have that "Man-stage" at 25 which is why I suggested a while back that they not push him so fast.
Too much exposure can be a bad thing, agree. It builds very high expectations and you feel the need to keep justifying it every second which may push you faster than you need to go. The move to L.A. may help him stay relaxed and have people like Roach help him plan out his career accordingly...although hopefully Roach doesn't get greedy with the loss of Pac (retiring) and need that next superstar to fight the big fights all the time. Luckily he does have Guillermo Rigondeaux to keep him busy.
It's up to Amir now to keep training, stay on track, and make the doubters converts with big wins. The article I read said it took Lennox Lewis some time to win over the British public. Amir may have to do the same thing with making the "hype" become actual truth.
I wonder if Amir can make a big impact in the United States. He does have youth on his side and staying in L.A. around the "Stars" can actually help boost your name in the public. Now, like I said before, he just has to keep winning and excite the crowd.

Pretty much agree with this...i like khan, hes a good guy, he is confident not arrogant....He is humble aswel...
People in england especially dont like him, cos he is asian, they will always deny it but its true....Apparently according to a few boys from my college class "the only reason they say he is good is because he is asian" .... Yh rite, if he was black or white he would be the next Ali with them...
I dont see why he gets so much hate, and i dont think the newspaper help him either...people get sick of seeing the same person in the paper, and they do hype him up more then they should but thats not his fault...
And in todays world people expect a boxer the age of 22 yrs old to have all the best fighters in the world on their resume ...

No one ever claim Fraudly Harrision or James Degale was/is the next Ali.
Actually Degale is getting pretty annoying too, he needs to listen to Billy Joe Saunders post fight interviews.
I've asked a similar question before.
Some will say he is too arrogant and was exposed by Prescott.
I think his "arrogance" is more of confidence...something a fighter needs. He seems better off now that he already got knocked out as well. A bit humbling experience for him. It should help him understand his strengths and weaknesses.
Many interviews with him are up on youtube which are good to watch.
One of the things I like about him is that after he lost he wanted to get better and made the move to the States to do just that.
He has now won a title, is still young and improving, and can have a good career ahead if he stays on track.
He just needs to keep winning and go on to beat top talented fighters.
That's my opinion from an outside perspective.

So nobody seen it. If the general US public had a bunch of R.1 knockouts on free to air tv, they'd get sick of it pretty damn quick
yeah but Hatton wasn't going to generate the same resentment because 1.) nobody saw it on terrestrial tv, 2.) there wasn't a huge amount of hype about it.
if you're british you'll know people were and are sick of audley harrison too, more hype more trash cans.
But credit to Khan he's stood up when he's faced real boxers and become a World Champion, still doesn't match up to all the hype yet but maybe he will in the future.
this is something i think we can all agree with.
Well lets educate you then, its because he won an olympic silver medal at 17, He was Team GB only representative because the rest didnt qualify to represent us, Because he was so young his story was followed at the olympics by millions of people.
when he decides to turn pro the TV networks were queuing up to continue is story, Much like Oscar de la hoya did when he won the gold at barcelona 92 and he dedicate it to his mum, when oscar went back home he was a star and even his first fight was on PPV..
So nobody seen it. If the general US public had a bunch of R.1 knockouts on free to air tv, they'd get sick of it pretty damn quick
Hattons first 10 opponents had a combined record of 78-179-22 whereas khan's had 117-99-10 so your point is irrelevant. Regardless of these numbers fighters always fight the regular bunch of stiffs in there first few fights. Just because he blew away the stiffs ( which is what someone of his amateur pedegree is supposed to do) shouldnt be a cause of hate .
