of fighting real opposition?
i think it's in his genes. he can't help but duck any real threat.
he is ruining boxing, and so are his fans.
floyd "the running" gayweather would never join a tournament like the super-six one. boxing needs more of that, not more of floyd.
I think it stems from his childhood and family life. He is from a dysfunctional family- a drug dealer for a father and a violent family. There was always bickering between his father and uncles and all the pressure was put on Floyd to be the star and lifeblood of his family. He had the burden of bringing them out of the ghetto on his skills.
Floyd probably has hidden most of his personal troubles from the media and the only thing that truly symbolizes his success is his record. Once he loses the 0, the mystique of Floyd Mayweather Jr is gone. I believe in his mind, he feels that if he loses, he will be a failure and he will have let his family down.
On the outside it would appear that the 0 represents his marketability but I feel it goes much deeper than that. He seems to try to be a mature adult but he feels threatened when questioned about his career and undoubtedly resorts to shouting and diminishing others. I believe it is akin to what Michael Jackson went through: Dysfunctional family life, all the pressure to succeed on him, and the result is he loses his childhood.
It appears that Floyd is indeed a boy trapped in a man's body (not trying to diss him but explain why he may act the way that he does)
Floyd distances himself from situations regarding him by letting others decide what is best for him and more importantly as evidence, often, if not always, refers to hiimself in the third person. This is a good indication of emotional instability as it is a safety tactic that people use to seperate themselves from tramatic experiences they wish not to think about. He has created a false persona that represents "Floyd Money Mayweather" but inside he may feel completely different. When questioned, he always responds with anger and violence, another indication of his inner emotional discontent.
The one uncle, Jeff, has distanced himself from the core of the Mayweather family and I feel that he recognizes the broken nature that is present there in the household. Listen to the way Roger and Sr. talk, always dismissing the accomplishments of others and cursing in every sentence. The blame is always placed on other people for not fighting them: not a big draw, steriod user, no name, too many losses, etc.
Once again, not really trting to diss Floyd (although I can understand if people view it that way) but just my personal observations through the years.
If ur contending Baldomir is a better name on his resume than a Margarito, Cotto, Williams, or Mosley...
Then u really are an idiot.
ANd let's not even start on Spafadora, Kostya, Casmayor, Freitas.
All of whom gayweather ducked. Not saying that, but what I am saying is he's back and once he adds some or all of those names on your list there will be another line of clowns that everyone thinks he has to fight.
He wants to make sure he's retires as the champ on paper... his resume would seem impressive to someone who knew nothing about boxing.
agreed
he had to grow up as a young boy seeing his dad get beatdown by sugar ray leonard and seeing his uncle roger dominated by whitaker and julio cesar chavez. no wonder he's scared of good fighters cause he keeps thinking about those traumatic events and crying.
lol but it's true.
He did his best work early in his career but his most recent fights were indeed lacking the the legitimate threat department so criticism is warranted. Stop the perpetual victim hood of poor Floyd who according to his zealous admirers can't get a break. If he fought everyone who everyone wants him to fight, all of whom I think he would beat anyway, he would be one of the most popular champions in the world. I am a boxing fan not a hater or a nutthugger and just find it frustrating that he fails to tap into his immense talent and live up to his potential by fighting the best fighters he could possibly fight.
great post.

Yes, I've heard this argument before...I'm not calling you a hater, but maybe you've allowed yourself to be influenced by their rhetoric..Who knows.
You have to take into consideration the "Mayweather effect" that is a result of the backlash of losing to Mayweather. Some people have Mayweather so low in their esteem, that, anyone he beats joins him in that holding tank of low esteem.
You might have a champion, undefeated such as Corralles or Hatton... But once they lose to Mayweather, they all of a sudden lose some of their status, if not all, with your average Mayweather detractor. Not to even mention the several fighters he beat that only had 1 or two losses, I mean they really get trashed. Whereas, before the fight they are built up as "threats". This process is rinsed and repeated over and over.
Let me pose you a hypothetical to see what I mean. What if, instead of Floyd fighting Hatton, he fought Cotto instead? And beat Cotto in a convincing fashion? Well, the "Mayweather effect" would have already diminished the status of Cotto.. And Hatton would be saying Floyd ducked him. And people would be backing his claims. Saying Cotto was this or that (insert downplaying excuse here), and Hatton was the "real threat" all along, provided Hatton hadn't been drubbed by someone else yet, that is..
THe same works for SSM, or anyone, really. Just give one pass of the "Mayweather effect" and they are instantly delegitimized in the eyes of many. Meanwhile, the ones left over are free to say THEY are the threats, and that Floyd has been ducking THEM.
And then people back those claims up... ect , ect..
The major problem is people want to see a competitive fight. They want to see Floyd challenged..otherwise they feel like they were somehow robbed as fight fans. But what if he's just that damned good? What if no one in the WW scene could even truly challenge him, with the possible exception of Pwill? But people refuse to believe this generally, and hence their next logical step is to call Floyd a coward like that shining example of humanity above me..
But don't worry... he will fight someone good next. People are just gnashing their teeth too much and need to chill.
And Baldomir was undisputed.
Only reason he became undisputed is because he got lucky against the unprepared overrated ZAb.
You've seen the way he fights, he's tough but Baldomir is nothing but a C class fighter.
But Mayweather is a blown up featherweight. I know that every fighter is eventually going to lose if they continue on but it's not happening anytime soon.
A blown up featherweight?lol
So why didn't he make 144 against Marquez.?
Common man.
On paper, the Top WWs.
Not a journeyman Baldomir or a 36 year old featherweight. But Mayweather is a blown up featherweight. I know that every fighter is eventually going to lose if they continue on but it's not happening anytime soon.
Floyd wants to keep his zero so don't expect the b*tch to fight someone who is a threath to his zero.It all depends on who you think is a threat to the zero at this point.
So to fight Diego Corrales, Oscar DelaHoya, Geno Hernandez, ZAB Judah, Phillip NDOU, Ricky Hatton, Vic Sosa, Carlos Baldomir, Angel Manfredy, Jesus Chavez, Sharba Mitchell, D Correley. HE tried to fight Cotto and his father said he was to green, he tried to fight Mosley and he didn't want any part of it. So is it FLOYD responsibility to make sure the crowd is pleased or is it Floyd responsibility to ensure he wins. I dont know any fighter who goes into a fight to lose. Stop hating on a fighter who has boxing skills. Who wants to fight Margarito. They forget how long the kid been in the game. By the time he ends his career, if he continues to go on with his career he will be right up there with the best of any era.

sadly..this is how it goes.
May can pretty much tactically decision or domiinate anyone at this point, with the exception of possibly Pwill... and WILL fight someone good if u give him a few ****ing months...lol
Problem is, that good fighter he fights next will be touted as what was the words the original poster used? ah yes a "real threat" until of course, Floyd beats them convincingly and defangs them with his style
Then its on to the next "real threat", cuz he never fought one apparently.. shit is endlessly circuitous and pointlessThere it is right there...these cats can't realize that it will never be enough. I agree about the Pwill position simply because he is too big and throws so many punches. I can't wait to find out who wins this fight between Cotto and Pac because regardless who wins it's a done deal. He will make them look amatuer with his style. I don't have any bad feelings towards the Cotto and Pac fans because I like them too but the kid is on another level.
