I dont want people to read the question and say, "oh I know, the answer to that is Sugar Ray Robinson". I know who is considered by most the greatest. I want to know what you think. Based mainly on all around skills. I haven't made up my mind for my pick yet, I've been watching alot of fights trying to find the guy who I think is #1. I just wanted to see what you guys thought.
But he fought in a time where fighters were not as powerful, well conditioned or skilled as they are today. In addition, he lost to Jake Lamotta. Nothing against Jake, he was a warrior, the Arturo Gatti of his day. But to lose to him, by decision nontheless, is just not impressive.
What are you saying Kid Gavilan was a beast very skilled fighter. Not well conditioned? they use to go 15 rounds. I can only name a handfull of fighters of today that could go 15rds. Lamotta was the only fighter to beat him in his 20's and in his first 130 fights Did you know that? Did you also know that SRR weigt under the WW limit for that fight. While Lamotta weight above the MW limit. Jake was is ATG argubly a top 5 greatest MW of all time. He beat a lot of top fighters and has very underrated skills. He was pretty good at rolling punches. Bro is SRR hands down and you are really underrating Lamotta.
SRR at WW was the closest thing to unbeatable that you can get. Greatest WW of all time. Greatest MW of all time. And, came really close to winning the LHW title. And, he started his career at LW.

The greatest I've seen who I've seen a lotta footage of would probably be Ali or Sugar Ray Leonard...I think Leonard was more complete though as Ali usually didn't go to the body very much...
I think Leonard could do anything in the ring...power, footwork, handspeed, stamina, etc.
Although Duran got in his head in the first fight...
I hear Ali used to run backwards at times to work out the different muscles in his legs...
I haven't seen too much Robinson...
