Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs Andre Berto -- 2010!!

"Canelo" Alvarez a 19 year old and on of the most poplular sport figures in Mexico (this is the guy that Team Pacquiao should have got instead of Porter, he fights so much like Cotto) His manager Rafael "Cobra" Mendoza just mentioned that they will be fighting Berto in 2010 for the WBC Welterweight World Title if Berto is still a champ by that time, if not they will challenge anyone that has the WBC Belt. The WBC belt is their priority Let's remember that Dibella already offered Alvarez a Title shot versus Berto in this year, but Canelo's people refuse because the kid needed more experience, he was 18 when that offer came. But after his last perfomances, they saw a much bigger improvement than expected in his skills, and now they are confident that by 2010 Canelo will be ready to challenge and beat Berto, in front of Millions of Mexicans watching on National TV in Televisa. Alvarez-Berto would be very interesting, might be a little too big a step up in class for Alvarez though, he hasn't really fought too many top 10 guys yet. I agree that Pacquiao's camp should look him out for sparring, he definitely reminds me of a young Cotto.

I've never seen Alvarez fight, but I've heard a lot of positive things about him. And I'd rather him be the one to knock Berto's overrated ass out, and at the same time Mayweather grow the balls to fight Shane.

Alvarez is pretty young and he's already a great prospect. I wouldn't be surprised if he got his title shot next year. The question is can he win?

HOw is Berto protected when every fight he is calling for Mosley or Cotto? I dont get the hate for him. He also beat a very good fighter in Collazo who everyone on here sweats but no one gives Berto credit for that fight. On top of that he has had some struggles but 90% of them have came against Southpaws. Some people just dont know how to fight Southpaws well and his idiot trainer purposley had Berto going the opposite direction in his last fight against Urango. I think Berto will look 10x better against a righty and will shock people with how he looks against Molsey. I could see Mosley losing or struggling badly and then the media & fans trying to play it like Mosley is washed up now instead of seeing that Berto really is talented. I would pick him easily to beat Cotto right now

It's too early to call a verdict on Canelo. He hasn't really impressed me as of yet, I haven't seen much of him though. He has a lot of room for improvement but a lot of potential. As to whether he's the next Mexican ATG, I don't know about that.. it's too early to be saying all that. Take it as it comes but don't overhype the guy too much.

I don't think Berto gets the credit he deserves on this board. He is protected but he is also a very skilled fighter and this fight will be competitive.

Alvarez-Berto would be a great fight... But I think HBO will want to continue to overprotect Berto, and so he's unlikely to face someone as good as Alvarez (who would KO him). I know what you mean, i'm really not concerned about HBO not wanting this fight, because if Alvarez wins, they will get a good fighter with lots of fanbase behind him. I belive it will be Dibella the one who will be tough to convince even tough he offered Canelo a title shot in this year. But now that the kid has got more experience and showed lots of improvement, i don't know if Lou will risk Berto with a 19 year old.
