I don't know if this topic has been made, but I was discussing this with some friends yesterday, and we pretty much agreed that he should. He has not seemed himself lately, and even if this has been because he has been fighting good comp, he should quit while he's still healthy. He has handled his money well, and I think he's financially secure.
If a small dude like Pac manages to beat him, I think he should fight some average fighter here in PR as a farewell fight, similar to Tito-Cherifi. He could still beat some other WWs even if he loses to Pac, but why push it? He'd have taken a lot of punishment. I was just watching the Margarito fight last night, and that shit was brutal. It was nearly Tito-Vargas level.
To everyone who has answered with the same "retiring after just 2 losses is stupid", y'all must be forgetting the beatdown Margarito put on this dude. Losing 20 times by decision is not as bad as losing just once in that fashion. Ask Fernando Vargas or Meldrick Taylor what a brutal KO defeat can do to your health and your career.
I bring this up because, like I said in the original post, he has obviously shown he has declined. Losing to Pac would be the biggest evidence that he is not the same fighter he was years ago. He truly has no business losing to such a small dude. I ask if he should retire because of his health. Of course he could still beat other fighters out there, but it would be detrimental to his health in the long run. Most people here don't seem to understand that.
Lose to the #1 P4P fighter in the world and you should retire? I disagree. Granted Pacquiao is smaller, but I don't see any shame in losing to Pacquiao. Margarito rematch, Mosley rematch, Clottey rematch and even Berto would still be there.
Pacquiao may be the #1 P4P fighter in the world, but to me, I don't see what's so impressive about Cotto beating him. He's probably going to blow up to Middleweight and have a big size advantage on him just like Floyd did with JMM. Cotto's fans just can't admit that he is mediocre and doesn't have the ability to move up in weight class. You guys complain about Paul Williams, but at least he is moving up the latter and not looking down. The only three fighters that Cotto has fought that he didn't either have a size or strength advantage against he either barely won or quit. I don't have Cotto anywhere near a P4P list.
LMAO if the TS is who I remember..I think I read that Cotto was an "asshole" toward him when he ran up on him like a groupie..and ever since then he jumped on Mayweathers "charismatic kindness" and became a hardcore Cotto hater.. talk about bein butt hurt!
now he should retire if he loses a catchweight battle against the JrWW Lineal Champion?..
and you guys wanna keep callin Pacquiao a "former 106lb fighter" yea..he was 16 yrs ago!..tell him to even try and make 135 or much less 130 now..and watch his lil ass crumble like his "idol" De La Hoya!!..
If Cotto loses to this midget, not only should he retire, he should jump off a bridge and smash a river float.
Regardless of the fact that you're a Cotto hater, and a Cotto fan hater as well, he still has a lot of good fights left in him. He's already proposed to retire soon, regardless of his standing in the boxing world, words he said himself, so no need to ruin a perfectly good river float. :boxing:
I swear I'm starting to hate MotherFukkers who make post like this. Just because a boxers loses to another great boxer doesn't mean he is done. Even the greatest boxers to ever enter the ring not only have loses but devastating ones at that
true that people like t.s. are straight weak. t.s obviously aint a man.
2 defeats and he should retire wow...he can still fight even if he loses defeats dont mean anything aslong as u fought the best in your time
Most fighters fight to be the best if they stay any time longer is for the money or the love of the sport. Cotto been through many battles if he can't reach the top he could only get seriously hurt. He's fights are not picked fights against smaller dudes. Manny is small, but he represents a danger because of his speed and power combination. Plus he can do that for 12 rounds. Its not like Cotto has a huge height advantage. The reach is the same, so Cotto only advantage is his power which Manny can elude.
............
No!
What he said...
Wht the fks up wiv people now adays...you lose 2 fights and apparently your a failure?....even the greatest had loses....its what you do after you lose that counts....fkin ell hes 30 or so....
no he souldn't retire he is still and elite fighter and even pacquiao would still have more losses then him so he shouldn't but thats if pac wins though

He has a full year before retirement. He's fighting TOP WW competition, its usually harder to look good fighting at that level than when cherry picking. Margo fight was brutal but obviously Cotto has done better after that beating than Margo, sure Margo didn't end up losing more than Cotto?
He shouldn't retire. Maybe he should move up a division, though. Imagine Miguel Cotto as a light middleweight.
he'd be an above average 154 lber, but not elite.
He should take a break or another easy fight, but i say that'll be the end of Cotto. He's been in a lot of wars with many fighters that no one has face. How manny fighters can say they fought Clottey, Mosley, Margachito and Pacquiao. Name any other current fighter at 147 that has fought all these guys when they still had alot left. Margo had plaster, Mosley became champ and Clottey was injured free.

cotto has no business losing to a former 106 lber. that is all.
i like the way you think. I also dislike this. Often times when fighters lose, the guys commentating on the fight always question their career. LUDACRIS!!!!
Yeah anybody who even considers themselves a fan of the sport, and knows a little bit about it's history, would never make comments like this. Sh!t disgust me every time. Hopefully real boxing fans can team up and start red K'ing these idiots.
