This thread was inspired by a line from a Jay-Z song. In that song he says -"people ask me Jay how you get so fly? I say by not being afraid to fall out the sky."
This line from Jay-Z reminds me of the Pac and Mayweather fight. In this fight both fighters would have a chance to be a part of something greater than themselves, greater than any amount of money they can even imagine to make. Both fighters are at the highest point of their career, but neither is at the highest point that can be reached. In order to soar into those new heights that not many get a chance to reach, they must not be afraid of falling. If they let ego and money get in the way of this fight being made, then neither fighter really deserves the type of praise and recognition that would come with winning such type a fight as this. F*uck who's ducking who. I dont believe either fighter is ducking the other. If this fight doesn't get made because of ego and money, then both fighters are ducking the moment and ducking greatness. Just my thoughts.
Good use of the Jay-Z lyrics.
I think this applies to what Manny is doing right now by taking on bigger and stronger fighters in weight classes that almost no one thought he would be effective at. With his upcoming fight with Cotto, I think that the risk of a possible win against arguably the best or at least most accomplished welterweight in the world in his prime far outweighs the risk of losing to said fighter.
As far as how it applies to Floyd, I think that for a long time, Floyd has been afraid to 'fall out of the sky' so to speak. A great talent, one of the greatest ever, yet for so long unwilling to take the necessary risks to go above and beyond greatness.
Hopefully we can see him challenge himself (Floyd) because I truly don't think we have seen his full potential. He simply hasn't had to dig deep to use it.
What would be ideal is if this happens with them fighting each other, like you mentioned. It would be great for the sport, and great for both the winner as well as the loser of the fight.
I agree that if any of the two has been out to truly challenge himself, it is Pac. I just hope that both can agree on the ultimate challenge, fighting each other.
