Mayweather-Marquez comes up short at gate, draws $6.8 million
By J. Michael Falgoust, USA TODAY
While it remains unknown how well Floyd Mayweather's return to the ring did on pay-per-view and closed circuit, his easy 12-round decision against a Mexican opponent didn't sell out despite it being Mexican Independence weekend.
Attendance at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas was announced at 13,116, but Thursday the numbers showed that 12,009 tickets were sold at face value, 895 tickets were comps — or giveaways — and 2,645 went unsold.
The total gate: $6,811,300.
The base salary for Mayweather was $10 million while Juan Manuel Marquez cleared $2 million.

You mean economics? What major are you? I'm in accounting, so all the tax and IRS troubles Mayweather has fascinates me.
Pacquiao has the Filipino fanbase, Cotto has the PR fanbase, combine the two and you would have a sold out crowd I guess. Just conjecture though.
The most pathetic thing is that facts like this actually bring happiness and glee and fits of giggling to Mayweather critics.
I personally think it's kind of weird. I don't know why tax information and gate attendance is fascinating... unless we have a lot of Algebra majors here. (hm, i actually hope so- would explain the shit spelling alot of Floyd haters showcase)
Here is something to consider, Floyd haters. If you can research facts and figures, consider this one:
12.5 MILLION AMERICANS OUT OF WORK.
I hope that sends you into fits of giggles as well. After all, going to see a live boxing event in circumstances like that, especially when all is available were not the best seats, is sure to not be as much of a priority when it is, in fact, a luxury. According to a CNN research, 2 million more Americans have lost their jobs since May alone. You mean to say that isn't even a slight factor in gate attendance? Concerts, stand up comedy- all of it isn't doing the same numbers it was doing a year ago.
You "told us so"- right?
