Roach rips Floyd performance
By Dennis Principe
They still have to deal with Miguel Cotto but Hall-of-Fame trainer Freddie Roach just couldn’t hold back in talking about Floyd Mayweather, Jr. The day he arrived in Baguio City to hook up with his prized fighter Manny Pacquiao, Roach told ********* that Mayweather missed the chance of gaining enough bargaining leverage in his latest fight against Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez. “The fight was there for the taking but he just couldn’t finish Marquez because he doesn‘t have the balls to finish him off ,” said Roach. “The only way that he could have benefited in fighting Marquez was by knocking him out and doing something Manny couldn’t do. He’s a great boxer and I can’t take that away from him. But he’s not exciting. He doesn’t make me jump off my seat. That’s what boxing needs.”
As for Mayweather’s chances against Pacquiao, Roach admits its going to be a difficult fight but quickly adds the Filipino multi-division world champion’s skills would eventually lead them to a victory.
“Mayweather’s not the bravest guy in the world so you got to take chances. He’s a very difficult style for anyone but with enough punching power and pressure I think my fighter can get him because I’ve got the best fighter in the world,” said Roach.
Roach thinks the most difficult aspect of dealing with Mayweather is not inside the ring but on the negotiating table.
“It’s what the world wants to see. But the thing is, can you get him sign the contract? I don’t know. It’s going to be difficult because he thinks he’s going to get all the money,” said Roach. “If he thinks he’s going to get equal money with us, he’s crazy. He needs us, we don’t need him.”
Roach justified his assessment of Mayweather’s marketability by describing the American’s 12-round decision win against Marquez last weekend at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas.
“Let’s face it, the guy that puts asses on the seats is Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather doesn’t draw. Against Marquez the venue was 80% Mexican,” said Roach.
Pacquiao (49-3-2, 37 knockouts) will battle Cotto (34-1, 27 KOs) over 12-rounds for the Puerto Rican’s World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight crown on Nov. 14 at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas. Both combatants agreed to fight at a catch weight of 145 lb.
Next week, Pacquiao shifts to higher gear as he gets to face
four sparring partners led by undefeated A merican boxer Shawn Porter . All are capable of simulating the style of Cotto, according to Roach.
“Porter is my main guy right now. He’s 11-0 with 10 knockouts and is a light middleweight who’s got a strong left hook,” said Roach.

it seems to me like roach is desperate for the mayweather/pac fight, he cant stop talkin about mayweather. its guna be very embarassing if cotto beats pac like i think he will
Sig stealer!
:boxing:
What people dont realize is that Pacquaio fights counter punchers better than Marquez can. Shit the 2nd fight was actually a war and not a schooling like the first one.
Lol you mean Floyd fought Oscar when he was legitimately in there to fight and conditioned properly. Manny fought him looking sickly barely looking to box, let alone fight. Manny LOST to JMM and arguably twice. Manny doesn't have what it takes to beat a Mayweather. I like Pac too so I'm not bashing, just facts speak for themselves.
Manny lost to JMM are not facts. tsk tsk tsk. Where did you get those? Official results are a draw and a SD win for Pac.
Manny have what it takes to Mayweather. If you said that he is against the odds to beat mayweather , then I would agree if you. An underdog is still capable of winning. Again , what facts are you presenting?
Let me again do a rebuttal. "JMM look old, slow and bloated in his fight with PBF, let alone fight. "
Did Roach say Floyd didn't do anything Manny hasn't to Marquez? Lol he's crazy Marquez whooped Mannys ass for the Majority of their 24 rounds... Floyd made it look like he was fighting a bum sparring partner... And Floyds last three fights have sold more then Mannys and the Pacquiao-Cotto fight has to do massive numbers to depleat Floyds case of getting the larger share...
What is interesting is this Shawn Porter. I just saw a video on one of the thread and he is good. If pac can take those punches, I'm more confident that he can take Cotto's punches too.
Shawn Porter is the truth. He fights like a young Cotto. If Manny can handle him then Cotto is done for...
even though Floyd did not knock Marquez out...he never was hit with anything significant or was ever in trouble.
I was just as satisfied watching Floyd do his thang, i really didn't need to see Marquez out cold.
Jmm is a greater boxer than Pac but Pac is the greater fighter. Let me do a rebuttal.
Pac did to Dlh what pbf could not do -- made him quit.

Funny Freedie, Floyd DID do to JMM what Pac couldn't - gave him a 12 round boxing lesson and won by a landslide on the cards. Try again.

funny how Roach pays such attention to Floyd when Pac has to fight Cotto.
just like the mayweathers making comments on pac when floyd was training for marquez? i see :lol1:
and you think that roach is wrong ... nah ... you are ... you are a key board trained creature not world class trainer ... can you see the difference... dont compare your thinking with the real trainer .... duh
L
Roach has already been wronged...and the majority of the comments regarding Mayweather is just hyperbole and nonsense. Furthermore, whether he thinks Mayweather is a boring fighter or has no balls has nothing to do with what will transpire inside the ring. You knows this, I know this. It doesn't take a 'World class trainer' or rocket scientist to know this. When this fight happens (barring a Pacman loss to cotto) be ready to see the sweet science of boxing on display with the ref raising Mayweathers hand in the end.
He will obviously answer the question Pull. But from a boxing fan standpoint, he should not pay ANY attention to ANY other fighter than Miguel Cotto.
i think you need to wake up son!
you remember fmj and fms always inserting the name of paco everytime they have an interview, prescon, etc. they use the name of paco to gain attention...cuz only those delusion-fmj-fan hears them.
Roach leaves out the part about the catch-weight he's going to insert into the contract, even though Manny's best fighting weight is 149lbs.
Yeah right! guess what if fmj signs a 145 or 147 weight, he goes 150 or maybe 155 just to make sure he can win, does not respect rules.
Only thing i hear out of Freddy's mouth is Mayweather's name. It getting kind of comical really...it almost implies he isn't very confident.
- mayweaher is boring
- mayweather had no balls for not knocking out marquez
- mayweather- marquez bout wont sell
- marquez had 80% of the fans
- mayweather wants too much money
- we'll knock mayweather out
- Manny doesn't need mayweather, mayweather needs us
- we wont let cotto do to us what mayweather did to marquez
- Manny needs to knockout out mayweather before he retires
....it goes on and on. Seems to me like a nervous person who realizes a big loss awaits his fighter.
and you think that roach is wrong ... nah ... you are ... you are a key board trained creature not world class trainer ... can you see the difference... dont compare your thinking with the real trainer .... duh
You need to stfu with your nonsense.. You know how many times Manny Pacquiao's name has came out of the Mayweather's mouth?
exactly...dunno this voidness hugger cant understand simple things ... or maybe they cannot understand what voidness talk and forgot how voidness always drops the name of paco...even hi voidness sr did so...went to steriod ... and now skills department ... duh ....LoL
only thing I hear from floyd is manny, manny, manny...
in every interview he mentioned his name, every press conference, 24/7..
the guy and his daddy as well as his uncle have an obsession with manny.
turn down the pornography while you watch interviews, and it'll be clearer to hear. since Brian Kenny interviews, press conferences, and so forth, all obviously show Floyd being asked about Manny, he trying to be get back to the point, and the interviewers pressing him on it- Freddie Roach has brought up Mayweather more than hes ever talked about Cotto, since before Floyd's fight was even announced. Floyd Jr. doesn't mention fighters first, in fact, hes careful not to do it. You're so delusional now you make shit up?
Well, they should follow Roy Jone's example and consider a 60/40 split, with 60 going to the winner. Shouldn't that make both camps happy, since both sides are secure their fighter is going to win?
Which is very understandable...I just get the feeling that they MAYBE overlooking Cotto.
I highly doubt that.
These are professionals, and I'm sure that they understand that this is easily his toughest fight, against his toughest opponent to date. One thing about Pacquiao & Roach is that they've always had to deal with the media circus, its nothing new, and I'm sure that the interviews are merely a formality in between training.
They are only talking about Mayweather because they are being asked about him. A lot of the text written in these transcripts can be easily taken out of context, especially the way every mundane thing that is said is reported and published.
Its all about buzz and awareness.

Well, he's not the one getting in the ring.
