Just asking. I believe it did great but I see no other source except from Iole. Plus all other reports base it on Iole and therefore 2nd/3rd hand already.
Where did you hear this? Hope you are right.
HBO said it will release Mayweather PPV numbers in the morning.

Schaefer hinted that the number will in fact exceed 1 million with an anecdote.
“Your colleague Dan Rafael made a bet,” he said. “He said it publicly on his blog. He said, 'No way,' when someone asked if it would do more than 1 million homes. He said. 'No way, never,' that he would shave his hair if it did. Another guy said, ‘Would you shave your facial hair too? He said, ‘Absolutely.’
“I’m telling you,” Schaefer said, pointing to two reporters with shaved heads, “Dan is going to look like you guys.”

Sounds like HBO will have an official announcement tomorrow morning, Shaefer said Dan Rafael will have to shave his head and beard so that means it will be over 1 million.

How would it benefit a 20 year, nationally-recognized sportswriter to put out a number that hurts his credibility just to be "biased" (not bias) towards a fighter?
That makes no sense. That isn't an opinion that people can dispute... he is presenting a fact from a source.
Why would he risk his credibility?...and can you name other instances when Kevin Iole was abjectly wrong on facts?
How would an internationally recognized sportswriter Ronnie Nathanielz hurt his credibility by being bias towards Pac?
Burden of proof is on Iole, he is quoting a source ( anonymous ) at the moment. The same burden also lies with Rafael as his source is also anonymous.
No. Iole is not wrong on facts but his opinions are biased towards Floyd. Just read his mailbag. But opinions are opinions.
Every writer is biased towards something. I mentioned Fischer because he went up against the Ring's upper brass in his callout against Pbf since pbf now rated above Cotto in the WW division. To issue that out against your employers take some balls. Thus, I respect his opinion.
Now, Do you honestly take the 1M as a fact based on what Iole tweets?
My intention for this thread is not to take a crap on Iole or Rafael or pbf or pac. But merely to cross-verify the number. Now, whats your agenda?
Any other source other than Rafael for Hatton-Pacquiao numbers?
No. Why? You can question the number. But I find 825K more believable than the +1M Arum was spewing after pac-hatton fight.

His dressing down of Georges St.Pierre as a disrespectful bum after the 1st. Serra fight.
When people sent articles and footage proving the contrary, he pretty much tried to discredit them by calling them "keyboard warriors".
Difference is Arum was giving those rumors not independent sources. Iole is in ties with Dana White. He wouldn't lie to help boxing
I think it's safe to say that Iole isn't credible in either sport.
Keep an eye on Dave Meltzer's coulmns around next wek to the start of the week after.
Meltzer has friends in PPV, so he can numbers or at least a solid range of where ppv lands.
Just like the early Pac-Hatton returns, it's all coming from one source. I think it's bogus, and I doubt it did more than 1 mil, or even got close. I'll eat my crow if I'm wrong though.

This guy will look like he was just listening to Floyd's camp or some false rumor if the number is actually at like 500k or 600k. However, the fact everyone is reporting it makes me think it has to be at least close.
Here's another boxing writer who's been doing some digging on his own:
"We all find the projected numbers stunning, believe me, and I said earlier today that I remained skeptical. We talked about it because it's good discussion. Kevin Iole himself told me that the numbers he was hearing were, to him, "shocking."
I can say this: The numbers I've heard tonight are a far cry from that 1.6 million high-end estimate."

True. Plus the fact that Iole is very bias towards Pbf which is why I'm questioning the number. If it came from say ... Doug Fischer, IMO, it would be more believable. But hoping it does have a great number, it would great for the sport.

I only really see Iole as claiming the number but...
The number could go as high as 1.6 million, as Kevin Iole told me last night over some back-and-forth messaging. Iole told me that a million is "definite," and says that HBO will release the numbers either today or on Thursday."
