Excerpt from Marley's site:
"The real sticking point and the key to Pinoy Idol Manny’s realistic chances of victory will be the blood and guys negotiating over weight and the timing of the weigh in.
....
(Back in the day) The fighters weighed in promptly at noon around ringside. The first bout went off about eight hours later.
That’s what Pacquiao must have against the bigger man, Mayweather.
It’s the one nonnegotiable point, a same day weigh in.
Secondary in importance but still vital is the maximum poundage. Pacman should try to make it 142 or 143 but I don’t think the Mayweather camp will ever agree to that.
So, in the spirit of giving something to get something, you can agree to 144 pounds—with no specification of a financial penalty because if L’il Floyd is too big, the fight is canceled.
(The alternative would be to make the overweight clause extremely painful, let’s say $3 million per pound.)
In no circumstance, should the Pacman team allow any scenario wherein Mayweather could weigh more than 146 pounds. The difference with a same day weigh in is, obviously, that he would only have eight or so hours to pack on poundage as opposed to 28 hours.)
....
If Pacquiao gets a same day weigh in, he maximizes his chances of beating the undefeated fighter.
If he doesn’t, while it won’t be as one sided as Floyd’s shutout of Marquez, it will be another Mayweather victory.
Lose the contract battle concerning a same day weigh in, the fight is lost for Pacman.
Win that concession and, to me, it’s a real 50-50 proposition."
this should be the rule and lets check who is welter and who is not ...
jmm vs fmj is like a third grader vs sixth grader fight ... which displays how the sixth grader dismantled the third grader .... LoL
screw all this weight mess...if its a welterweight bout, just let floyd come in at 147, and pac come in at whatever weight is most efficient for him and they fight...floyd beating up on another little man is what his fans want anyway
To make it a more even fight. Makes sense, doesn't it?
How even??? I dont get it...If i suggest that before for Mayweather it would be laughed at, So why now for manny??? For years i have been one of the people that have been talking about boxing doing the same day weight in because i think it would be right for boxing but people think its all because of Mayweather, So now that he comes in big all of a sudden people want to suggest sameday weight for a Mayweather-pacman fight??? These just gets better..
i suppose that makes sense, never really thought about it, always assumed it was made totally illegal years ago.
mayweather would never agree to it though.
Because he doesn't need to, if Floyd pulled this stunt he'd be ridiculed
When Floyd beats Pacquiao, i don't want to hear bullshit excuses
I think they are if agreed upon by both parties and there's no sanctioning bodies (belts) involved.

Am curious as to why..

LOL, For years people on here have been talking about same day weigh in but whenever you bring it up then its because other people weight more than Mayweather blah blah blah, Now Michael Marley wants to talk about same day weigh in???
Am curious as to why..
are same day weigh-ins legal (even if both fighters agree to it)?
Why not? I think they should be made mandatory.
When you think about it, it's the only way to prevent mismatches like last weekend.
If one fighter is naturally smaller and is bulking up to make weight but one fighter is draining himself to get down to weight then you can guarantee that both men will be around the same weight when they fight.

Yes.
Floyd can not make 144. He is definitely a bigger man now than he was before his layoff. Why don't you think he wouldn't do an unofficial weigh in? He was much bulkier than in the past. He looks more like a 154 lber to be honest.
Reminds me of the Wizard era Michael Jordan with mature bulk.
People are so crazy. They are going so overboard with this Floyd being huge stuff. If boxing was about same day weigh-ins then Floyd would be the #1 guy in boxing and #2 would be miles behind. There is no fighter at all in the sport who fights near his walk around weight except Floyd. I also think its a joke to say this about a Pac-Floyd fight when Floyd is well known for entering his ring pretty much spot on of his weigh-in weight and Pac was at SFW coming into the ring at 130.
Its so crazy how everyone thihks Floyd was 160 in the ring. He wasnt even close. Go look at him & Mosley side by side at the post fight presser. If Floyd was 160 then Mosley had to be atleast over 180. Floyd could care less about a same day weighin but that would be so unfair to penalize him like that since no one else ever does it and Floyd is 99% of the time on the other end of these things. Its a joke. If Pac had to have the same day weigh-in stuff in his career then he would have like 10 losses right now while Floyd would be undefeated. Come on now. Floyd fighting Zab & Baldy at WW coming into the ring at 146-148 pounds while Pac fights EM at SFW right after that coming into the ring at 147. Get real man. Meanwhile Baldomire blows up to 165 pounds. No one had a problem when Cotto was at SLW coming into the ring at 157 pounds. Its a joke how people treat Floyd
I think the JMM fight weigh-in proved that Floyd couldn't make 144. If that was close to his walk-around weight I'm sure he would have taken a shit and saved 600,000 dollars. So it's obvious that Floyd no longer walks around at 147.
If Pac wanna fight the king it will cost him 147 & 70/30
That is stupid! I would let Floyd starve. Manny can make his money fighting others rather than fight Floyd for 70/30.
50/50 and I love the same day weigh in!
floyd was 154-160 on fight nite
That's more like ik. His forearms, and biceps were bigger than ever. Floyd was never a build WW, he was more athletic ripped. He looked big and muscular against Marquez.
There is no fighter at all in the sport who fights near his walk around weight except Floyd.
Pacquiao does these days.

I bet the excuse for not doing this would be that they would lose money from having the weigh in on the same day, as most big fights have large crowd attendance for weigh ins (I'm assuming the fans pay to watch them although I don't know.)
It's also works as a huge advert for the fight. Weigh ins always make news headlines on the radio and TV the day before the fight so it kind of works as a good PR excersize.
It's a great idea though, I've never really understood why this isn't mandatory.

Seems realistic. I couldn't believe the size difference when they entered the ring. It never really showed up properly until then.
