Just from my personal experience, and with my thoughts on the fight aside(i thought it was overwhelmingly too lopsidedly scored for Mayweather)I watched the fight with a crowd of people, and there were alot of comments about "this is why I don't watch boxing", "this is the best boxing has to offer?" and how weak mayweathers performance was. it didnt help that the announcers were treatin it as a fight for pound 4 pound #1, and doin all but blowing mayweather in their commentary. The place I was at had both the ufc and the mayweather fight on screens, and the mayweather had everyones attention until about the 5th round when people saw the graphic and how every round was going to get scored for mayweather no matter how little he did. people were arguing about who won the first round, and everybody reacted to the 2nd round knockdown, but from there it was a really bad night to be a boxing fan. the announcers seemed more interested in putting over mayweather then calling the fight. and then mayweather had the nerve to rip the microphone out of Max kellermans hands before he could ask him any questions about pacquaio. i was embarressed by the end of the night to tell anyone that I went there soley to see the boxing.
idk what you were watching but it was a great night of boxing inside the MGM..the fans where alive and crazed. mayweather put on a beautiful display and i thought it was a great come back performance..i mean he coulda picked a dud like cotto did when he came back after marg
I will tell you, the whole point of Boxing is to hit and not get hit...
Well when Floyd is in there, he hits the other guy... and barely gets hit... he is doing what he is supposed to, yet your moaning agreeing that Floyd is boring and stuff.
At the same time if he wants to fight with that style he should know he is going to get criticized.
And also any trainer will tell you all of the great boxers all had one thing in common they were all great finishers, when they saw someone was losing and in trouble they could put them away. And either floyd just doesnt have a killer instinct, or he doesnt want to let his hands loose to finish. But either way thats where he gets the most criticism from me, if he could just finish fights i would call him the best fighter out there now.

This part makes no sense at all, You say "Mayweather had everyone attention until about the 5th round" I would think he had their attention cause he was dominating those rounds, yet then you come with "people saw the graphic and how every round was going to get scored for mayweather no matter how little he did." huh??
"the announcers seemed more interested in putting over mayweather then calling the fight." Yeah that what happens when one fighter is dominating the other.
"then mayweather had the nerve to rip the microphone out of Max kellermans hands before he could ask him any questions about pacquaio."
Max: Manny Pacquiao, I thought that would get your attention
Floyd: I know what can do...
Max: And you showed what you can do tonight
Floyd: And I
Max: Let me ask you about the selection of Marquez as your opponent, it seems that
Floyd: The thing is this you do to much talking, let me do the talking.
Max: Jim, Jim.
On top of that the Interview started off with Max cutting Mayweather off, Mayweather wanted to thank people and Max just cut him right off.
I gotta agree it was a bad night. Boxing fans expect better challenges, cherry pickings from Oscar and Floyd are getting old ppl see this, while they filled their pockets, sport is losing.
well to be honest!
mayweather did nothing wrong in the post fight interview.. .he was set up by HBO, GBP MAX KELLER, NARD & SHANE....
when he took on the mic @ the end... and kellerman.. just ignore him and called for jim....
that was BULLSHIT!!!!
they set up the guy!! and didnt let him defend him self!!! that was some bullshit and disrespectfull... with that being said..
that was the most entertaining part of the card :D
Boxing is an acquired taste anyway. You cannot whatsoever blame a guy for being conservative and defensive. He's 40-0. He's extremely rich. He's not slurring his words. Nothing wrong with being boring in that sense.
It wasn't a bad night for boxing. You had to expect that it could be boring. I thought Floyd would turn it up a bit one sided or not, but he was casual as usual. Still Floyd's not necessarily a crowd pleaser anyway. The fight people need to see is on November 14th.

Yes Floyd does what he is supposed to do, but it does not mean Floyd is not boring sometimes. Floyd is such a great boxer but he is in a lot of boring fights because of his style and its the reason a lot of people don't like watching his fights. People want that fighter instinct not a lot want that boxer instinct
Exactly.
Gayweather can return fighting Calderon for good measure.
That would be a fair matchup.

i totally expected Mayweather to destroy Marquez given the weight difference and the fact that Juan Daiz hurt Marquez and was doing very well.
i really do like technical boxing of Mayweather but he should have stepped it up and went for the kill but then again he landed 59% of his shots......maybe he just does not have the power(oh no watch them come out).
I watched this fight with a ton of people and they all came very disinterested in the fight around the 6th round and they started to play cards and drink and just do anything else besides watch the fight. These are not casual fans i am talking about either, they watch a lot of boxing. Honestly we get more excitement and drama for our buck from other top boxers than we do with Floyd.
oh by the way i am a big Mayweather fan
Exactly.

Gayweather, once again how clever.
Explain to me please, what is the whole point of Boxing... the main point of it?
how can ppl whant maywather vs pacman it will be so bored like marquez vs floyd this ppl are crazy.
cotto vs pacman better fight two warriors this is fire power
iknow floyd is a good fighter and have supreme skills but his to bored fighting
ppl whant to see action.
As a Boxing fan... I enjoyed watching the fight, if those guys were Boxing fans they would understand that it was Floyd first fight after a 2 year layoff before saying "is this all Boxing has to offer?", just saying really.
Also, by saying "is this all Boxing has to offer?" is stupid cause there are loads of potential fights out there and we just had a huge fight in Pacquiao vs Hatton and got another big one in Pacquiao vs Cotto, I dunno I think they should just understand that he has been off for 2 years before jumping in and trying to put down Boxing by saying they don't like it cause its the only thing they have to offer... I don't mind people saying the fight wasn't right and that the weight made a difference and stuff... but trying to put down Boxing cause of this fight is stupid IMO.
Packed? Even writers noticed the empty seats.
Go back to gayweather land where all gayweather dreams come true.
I barely noticed any empty seats to be fair, there could have been a few though... I dunno, it looked pretty full to me but I was more concentrated on the fight than the seats to be honest.
Am I right to say Pacquiao vs DLH wasn't sold out (I don't know this, heard someone say that on here a few days ago so want somebody to tell me whether it was or not)?
Anyway, your posts are pretty sad... he wins a fight and you throw your toys out the pram and cry about Floyd calling him childish names like Gayweather... next you will be calling him a pussy unless you already have, over an internet forum.
I didn't think it was horrible. Could have been better if the fight was better. People were entertained at my crib. And most of them were barely even casual fans. I'm the only one of my friends, well one other guy who are actual hardcore fans. They only watch when i rent or watch the fights on HBO or Showtime or whatever.
The undercard fights were decent. Not as good as I thought they could be. But the Lock fight was even decent too.
Plus it set up bigger things I think. Maybe Mosley, Maybe Pac Cotto winner.
Wow, the HBO team seemed to think this fight was incredibly entertaining by the way they were commentating. I didn't think it was half bad but was dissappointed that Floyd refused to "close the show" with a KO....
I agree with the thread starter. When the Mayweather DLH fight went down, that was one of the most boring matches I've ever seen in my life. I personally didn't get this fight and the main reason is that there wasn't a single area that Marquez had an advantage to make the fight competitive. Plus no matter how skilled Mayweather is, I will not pay money out of my pocket to help support that prick.
I don't understand how Mayweather is bad for boxing. He is marketable and one of the few fighters the mainstream media actually care about. These other fighters are doing nothing to be more marketable and cross over.
he is boring.. boring isn't good for the sport.
boring doesn't bring back customers.
