Ive heard people mention him as one before...Im sorry, but thats baloney. talk all you want, Mayol is nothing good, and has badly lost every time he stepped up, yet Calderon struggled with him twice. half of Calderon's fights nowadays end up in cut-short fights due to head clashes, where he never has dominant victories.
as for his title reign at minimumweight, the guy only held on to the WBO the whole time. no unifications. how are you fighting the best available competition when youre not fighting the other 3 fighters out there with belts? its like Joe Calzaghe all over again, except without the Kessler, Lacy, and Hopkins wins.
and pop quiz, was Calzaghe ever considered P4P material before the Lacy fight?
No.
maybe Calderon has seen better days...but from what Ive seen of him, hes no p4p top ten fighter.
he could be P4P in track and field.. :lol1:
this is pretty ignorant man!! :nonono: he has seen his better days go by! true...
but recognize!!! one of the purest boxers of the game he only beat you with skills .. no power... so.. i never expect him to stand toe to toe against anyone..!!!
lil' man is a top P4P fighter......the boy is slick as a bottle of Crisco!!!.....Mayol was beating the shit outta the air while Calderon was poppin' him with lil' sneaky shit then skatin' on him......brilliant shit!!!.....I appreciate technical boxing and lil' man is one of the best technical players in the game!!!......I like him!! :boxing:
^^^^ real recognize real!!!.....

Agree BlackIrish, nice breakdown.
He made some good points, especially about how many top ten he has fought. It is an argument that can be made.
But I disagree with his description of calderon's style, It is boxing not running and he did engage Mayol. He can't diminish calderon's style by calling it running. The last 3 fights he has been in there with bigger guys, is not as if we are talking chaves jr. who only fights guys that are way smaller with way less reach.
For all the crybabies....:bottle:
Calderon targets Viloria
By Lee Bates
Now that WBO light flyweight champion Ivan “Iron Boy” Calderon (33-0-1, 6 KOs) has defeated #1 rated Rodel Mayol in their rematch, he is looking to the future. “It’s no secret that the biggest fight for me is with Brian Viloria,” said Calderon. “He and I have a history going back to our amateurs when we fought multiple times and are both currently world champions. I want to make it clear that I have no problem traveling outside of Puerto Rico to make the fight happen!”
and for those who like to say calderon "runs".. donarie ran his ass off against concepcion. Oh I forgot, boxers only "run" when its not your boxer......:spank:
Cut him some slack, folks.
Iron Boy is 34 years old, in the lower weight classes thats more like 40. He just doesnt have a lot left in the tank. A few years ago he was definitely P4P material.
^^^^^^^^^^^^
he has seen his better days!!!!! since the cazaresII fight.. things have changed.....
with that being said.. calderon have been dominating the game for a long time..
i know some of these guys who are dissin and bashing him think that boxing is only about the HITMEINTHEFACE i hit you back type of fighter... none of you cant deny that ironboy has dominate even if you like it or not... dominate the 105 took on the bigger 108 and FATHER TIME IS starting to put his weight on ivan..
to diss or bash him or label him as a runner or whatsoever.... can give you an idea of what its really happening...
they just cant stand that the guy won.....
hes not the SAME IRON BOY OF 2 years ago... but he can still manage his way to beat BIGGER guys only with the SWEET SCIENCE...
for those who keep bit ching !! :bottle::bottle:
and old calderon stilll on the top!!
NEXT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah they weren't bad too, but Kyowa was regarded I think as the next guy after Calderon. Oh and Niida is japanese so Calderon wouldn't have fought him either.
For the people who are saying "give him a break, he's 34 that's like 40. He's slowing down"
Him slowing down means he's not a P4P fighter.
well, Calderon could have fought them. but he would have had to give up his WBO strap and go to Japan for it.
some fighters just arent willing to do that.
I think Rachman was Thai...I dont know how they look at the belts.
what about Muhammad Rachman and Yutaka Niida?
really? thats it? I was having fun and wanted a worthwhile argument, but if youre going to be a little girl about it and give one worded responses as if youve proved something, I guess thats ok too.
have a nice day then.

He's always been a runner though, and the way he has always won his fights is inflicting the least damage possible. He may be outweighed by his opponents, but Ricardo Lopez was a minimumweight and he could bang. Calderon can't hurt a mosquitoe.
I dont buy that shit. 3 different belts' champions 'didnt want none'? even 'avoided' fighters can get fights, it just depends on how how much they want the fights.
and I went ahead and checked, Calderon only had 3 wins over top ten rated fighters during his entire Minimumweight title reign.
Daniel Reyes-#3
Roberto Carlos Leyva-#8
Edgar Cardenas-#10
call me crazy, but thats not too great. without that 0 in the loss column, no one would look twice at Calderon. hell, theyd probably look away from him on purpose, the guys strategy is run for your life and land 3 punches a round.
Sorry guys, I have to admit I was wrong.
Daniel Reyes couldnt have been as high as #3. He convincingly lost to Omar Soto before his fight with Calderon, and Soto was rated #8 at the end of 2005.
so chances are Reyes was not rated #3 when he fought Calderon, he was probably rated lower than Soto...in other words, #9 or 10. sorry for the confusion, I dont mess up like that usually.
so top ten fighters Calderon beat:
Daniel Reyes-#9
Roberto Carlos Leyva-#8
Edgar Cardenas-#10

BlackIrish has clearly won by proving his point with clear and direct information, wheras everyone else has been trying to change the subject on him....
wow.. he only fought 3 top 10 rated guys during his run?... Disgraceful
Here you go...
I think it was a good size cut.
The thing is that cut is on top of his forehead and wasn't impairing his vision, it shouldn't have been stoppage worthy unless it was pouring blood like the Barrera-Khan cut.
But come on...it's his 4th or 5th consecutive cuts he was saved from....I'm beginning to think he puts his head out intentionally in the mid rounds coz he always is ahead on the scorecards.
:nonono:.......
calderon have seen his better days, thats for sure... but i respectufully disagree with that statement..
