NEW YORK – Freddie Roach and Manny Pacquiao will open training camp on Sept. 21 in Baguio City in the Philippines.
The top trainer said on Thursday that he will be arriving in Manila on the “19th or the 20th” and will immediately meet up with his fighter to start serious work for preparations for the Nov. 14 fight with Miguel Cotto.
Roach, who had earlier expressed his disagreement with setting up camp in the Philippines owing to distractions, said he spoke with Pacquiao on Wednesday night and the renowned student assured his master there’ll be no hanky-panky whatsoever as soon as they kick off the four week camp in Baguio.
After four weeks in Baguio, Roach will bring Pacquiao back to the Wild Card for the final four weeks “so he gets rid of jet lag.”
Pacquiao has been advised to set up camp outside US territory owing to tax issues that, if taken for granted, will cost the Filipino pound-for-pound king millions in dollars.
Roach said he’ll bring in two of the four sparmates to Baguio as the 49-year-old Boston native brushed off suggestions made by Pacquiao adviser Mike Koncz that former world champion Jose Luis Castillo of Mexico be taken in as well to help in the sparring.
“He’s a shot fighter, Castillo’s drunk,” blurted out Roach, who has been calling the shots in the corner over the last eight years.
Instead of Castillo, Roach will lean on Shawn Porter, Raymund Serrano, Urbano Antillon and old hand David Rodela.
Cotto, according to Roach, is not to be messed with owing to his advantage in size and strength.
“Cotto is strong and bigger, he is at his prime right now. He is a game guy and he likes to exchange so we have to be very careful, good puncher, great left hook to the body. I have been watching a lot of tapes of him and I am getting to know him a lot better everyday.”
Roach describes Cotto as “solid and does everything consistently.”
Still, Roach believes Pacquiao will prove to be far more superior than the 28-year-old from Caguas, Puerto Rico.
“I don’t think we’ll knock Cotto out, (but) I think it’ll go the distance and we are going to win every round.”

He doesn't like it to the body. But who does.
Margarito's body work is what did the majority of the damage.
Quintana also hurt Cotto pretty bad to the body....Cotto said that in a recent interview.
So are you saying that Margarito beat Cotto with no plaster and fair and square? Good man.
they fought Marg behind each other.......and Marg laughed at Cotto shots......Shane's took a few years off his life!!......Cotto can crack.....dont get me wrong......but Shane hits harder IMO
I read above, someone saying Cotto was fighting backwards against Margo, and maybe that's why they weren't as hard as a fighter moving forward (like Shane was), being able to put some weight behind it.
What do you think was the main reason Cotto won the fight with Shane? No sarcasm meant.
Cotto hits harder than Mosley.

First and foremost this is just my opinion...
I think Cotto will win this...but one way I do see Pac winning is just by pure punch volume...and use his speed to move in and out of Cotto's punching range.
Just a thought.
Hatton KOd maliganaggi and Cotto didnt, does Hatton hit harder than Cotto?
Fukk no.
Different styles between Mosley and Cotto and different game plan.
Mosley put full mustard on his punches vs Margarito, Cotto was throwing arm punches!!!!!!
Hatton never KOd paulie. Paulie was losing all the rounds and Buddy told Paulie to go for the knockout or else he was going to stop the fight. Paulie was still not letting his hand go and Buddy got pissed and threw the towel. There was no knock out or even a knock down in that whole fight.
I already told you.
Mosleys punches sting more do to speed, but Cotto is teh heavier handed fighter!!!!!!!
lets use your argument, pacs punches sting cause of speed and margarito obviously have heavier hands. according to rashad holloway, pac hits harder.
so would it be right to say that shane hits harder than cotto?
Fukk off, lol Joke!!!!!!
All I was saying is that Mosley was teeing off on margarito and was hitting him at will, thats why he looked that impresive at that moment.
Like i told you, Mosley`s punches sting more because of his speed, but Cotto is the heavier handed fighter!!!!
bro, you didnt answer the question. who hits harder when shane and cotto tee's off?
so who hits harder when shane and cotto tee's off?
by the way, im surprised that youre not trolling. i didnt know you can behave yourself. congrats :lol1:
ch@mp only trolls during full moon :lol1:
make that 155 pound punches since cotto is gonna be much heavier come fight night.. i would say he normally would weigh in in the 160s on fight night right? but hes going down all the way to 145 so idk if he can rehydrate that much weight on him
That about what i was thinking...between 150-155. Putting too much weight on in such a short time can make him sluggish and slow him down. He wants to get his weight in accordance with his opponents size and weight, and taking into consideration Manny speed, which Cotto will also need a bit more of, so he can't be coming in too heavy.
Yes, Mosley was just teeing off on margarito.
Watch Cottos fight With Pinto when Cotto was teeing off with his left hook and right hand. Agaisnt Balley look and the body punches that were lifting Balley of the canvas.
so who hits harder when shane and cotto tee's off?
by the way, im surprised that youre not trolling. i didnt know you can behave yourself. congrats :lol1:
I already told you, Mosley was going forward putting mustard behind all his punches, Cotto was back pedaling throwing arm punches.
That makes a huge difference in your punches!!
Just because a certain guy KOd a Guy you couldnt, doesnt mean he have more power than you.
Styles makes fights!!!
Like i said before Cotto is the heavier handed fighter, mosley speed and prescision makes his punches sting a bit more!!!!
i agree that that styles make fights and shane had the style to beat margo but mosley wasnt moving forward throughout the fight. how about the hooks shane was throwing at margo before the fight was stopped? do you think cotto hits harder than that?
We dont even kno if Pac can take hard 147 pound punches...yet everyone is picking him to knock out one of the hardest hitting ww's alive....???????????????????????????

C'mon Jm1, he said ONE of the hardest hitting WW's. :argue:
:D
i know and im just asking him a question cause cotto stops his opponents by punishing them
Let's ask Margarito who hits harder:lew:... I think he goes to break in a few minutes. Hot day to be cutting grass.
Lmao....So he doesn't do drywall anymore? :You_Rock_

i know and im just asking him a question cause cotto stops his opponents by punishing them. not by brute strength
