golden boy because i can be sure of the decision.
amen to that. sign with golden boy you will make it to at least 25 (to 30) and 0 and always win because golden boy will pay the judges. you get the money and the glory.
cant lose right?
it seems like top rank builds up there fighters really well but then they put a ceiling on your career and it seems like they turned pac and cotto into work horses. well for pac it worked out as Arum followed mayweathers seconds to make some big money. IMO any deal with mayweather save 80-20 would've been better for cotto's career than fighting margarito I mean that was just a bone-head move
Dude, just shut your f**kin' mouth!
As it stands, Top Rank ko GBP! TR has two stars, who the f**k does GBP have? That says it all.
Put every single GBP fighter on one card, and it still won't outsell PAC-Cotto!!
Lol. That's why only two GBP fighters already outsold them (DLH-Mayweather)
I think Top Rank is better at finding and scouting talent. They just have much more experience grooming, and bringing up fighters to the top. odlh, mayweather, cotto, etc.
As a fighter though, I think you could trust GBP more. Mainly because it's headed by boxers. I really think they're an honest org and wont try to screw anyone over, as they've been in the boxers gloves before. They just need to get better on the talent/boxing side of things
Frank warren deffo have u seen what he did for khan frank warren would let me fight bums get me a title shot against a bum then id get ktfo by a randomer
LOL, They do, but look who they picked out.
What I find funny about GBP, is that, for a promotional company that's mostly headed by prize-fighters, they have made some terrible matchmaking.
I mean, you've got B-Hop, Shane and the Q*eer and they inadvertantly sabotaged their biggest prospect, Vicky Ortiz.
Arum must've been laughin' his @ss off in his rockin' chair when he saw how that Maidana fight went down.
Its true that they ****ed up w/ Victor, that was a big loss on their part. But the company is still very young, so hopefully they can learn form their mistakes.
That's my point: boxing fans. Not the public in general in the U.S. Now you see celebrity bums like Denzel Washington wanting to be buddies with Pacquiao.
I"m talking about mainstream wise.
How many fighters are known by the mainstream today? Not a whole lot my friend. Pac has been know for years to boxing fans though.
I'm aware Pacquiao wasn't with Arum at the time, but in the meantime since then he has gone from being the biggest sports figure in the Philippines to one of the biggest on the planet. We both know Murad Muhammad wasn't going to get Pacquiao on CNN.
Diaz would sell out in Houston if he was promoted by me. He was already the biggest ticket seller in the region when he was with Main Events.
We can factor in the experience because the average fighter doesn't have 20 years to wait while Golden Boy catches up in experience to what TR is doing.
I'm just saying, are you really "promoting" if most of your money comes from TV and only a minor percentage comes from the gate? What happened to the days when promoters promoted?
Don King is the actual King of promoting things, but that ship has pretty much sailed. Still GBP nowadays does more of trying to adapt to what the fans want. Less PPVs with better cards (this is also HBO's credit as well, but GBP and HBO work together to make those cards).
When Pacquiao caught mainstream eye, it's because he fought two GBP promoted fighters. Both companies did good measures to promote the fight. Arum has been good with Public Relations, but GBP's done there fair share of that.
By the way it's not just Diaz's drawing power to houston, but GBP makes effort to promote the fights by going to rockets games and shit. It's public appearences, which both companies are good at. But Diaz-Malignaggi was up against an Astros games and a texans game. It still did rock solid numbers.
Also it did great numbers on HBO because GBP stacked that card to be a triple header. Arum has been good with public relations (look at the hype train he created with Margarito), but GBP is starting to increase the quality of cards. They've had stronger and consistent cards this year then they've had in the past.
It seems Top Rank is catching on too by stacking Cotto-Pacquiao, but GBP is the one who has put the effort in to make better cards in 09.
if you were fighting right now and you just turned pro, what promotional company would you sign with?
If I was still fighting and about to go pro I'd still be in Rhode Island, so I would sign with Jimmy Burchfield and CES. If my star was on the rise or I didn't think he was doing the job I could always sign with a more prominent promoter once my contract was up.
