Two years to the day after James Corbett beat John L Sullivan for the heavyweight championship of the world with gloves, that the earliest successful motion pictures of a boxing match were filmed. Attempts had been before but the conditions had been unfavourable.
It was a six round exhibition between Corbett and Peter Courtney (his career before and after the even was rather....non-eventful.
Corbett was asked to carry Courtney until the sixth and then knock him out. That is exactly what he did.
LOL -- Just as an aside I would like some vintage photos to frame. Might be nice to have a series, like Heavyweights before the 30s in one frame.Shoot, sounds like a nice idea. I am going to start looking when I not so tired.
I read it..I jus never heard of either one of them...You should read up a little on Gentleman James Corbett. He was considered one of the pioneers of the 'hit and not be hit' credo. The roar of the crowd is his autobiography. It's well written and worth the read.

I think this bit of history is very interesting and you have a remarkable memory to remember back this far
