Both were amazing fights and had many different elements but which will go down as 'the greatest'???
Thrilla:
The Thrilla in Manila is the third and final famous boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier for the Heavyweight Boxing Championship of the World, fought at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines on October 1, 1975.
The bout is often ranked as one of the greatest fights of 20th century boxing, and is the climax to the bitter rivalry between Ali and Frazier over who was the legitimate Heavyweight Champion.
Rumble:
The Rumble in the Jungle was a historic boxing event that took place on 30 October 1974, in the Mai 20 Stadium in Kinshasa, Zaire (now Democratic Republic of the Congo). It pitted then world Heavyweight champion George Foreman against former world champion and challenger Muhammad Ali.
The event was one of Don King's first ventures as a professional boxing promoter. He managed to get both Ali and Foreman to sign separate contracts saying they would fight for him if he could get $5 million to be their pay
Well, I'd vote "equally great", watched both fights in awe. But I've heard that:
- the ropes in Kinshasa were illegal (too loose) so that Ali could defend easier;
- Ali did not want to give Foreman the rematch (which Foreman IMO would win).
I don't know if it is true, but if yes, I prefer the Manilla fight.
I love the rumble. Great story and for what Ali pulled off.
Thrilla is of THE Heavyweights though. It gets my vote.
EDIT: Crazy how this thread is a decade old and got bumped by a guy trying to sell VPNs :lol1:
Thrilla in Manila hands down more action and it was way more personal beetween Ali and Fraizer that time.
Rumble in the Jungle is Ali best moment thoe his greatest win imo.
A klit fan? Well I'm not gay so I guess I am a Klit fan.Read what I said retard
And while you are asking me to prove that Frazier quit,How about you provide some evidence to Ali wanting to quit,That is what you claimed afterall
Now go read a book
You could see Frazier was shaking his head saying 'NO' when they wanted to pull him out. Don't try and use a sexual innuendo, i makes you sound like a virgin........
'Now go read a book'...? No full stops, punctuation. Hmmmm.
I must say, and i'm not trying to bump this thread, that its a shame tha on a boxing forum, only this amount of people will vote on probably the greatest fights ever.....
I voted neither and there was no way I was going to vote for the thrilla in manilla as it is without question the most overrated fight of all time,Heck the whole Ali-frazier trilogy is overrated
It really wasn't as competitive as it is made out to be,I gave frazier just five rounds of that fight even though Ali practically handed him the oppurtunity to win that fight
Of course you would,That was the whole point of the documentary.I could make a documentary on Joe frazier using actual facts and not hushed over myths and make you despise the man within an instant
these documentaries are very good at fooling ignorant sheep into beliving things that aren't true
See the post below me
As opposed to Frazier who never did? but you never saw that because it wasn't included on the documentary
Add to the fact that the words "cut my gloves off" never even came out of Ali's mouth.
Joe Frazier doesn't even claim it as a fact merely pointing out that a friend of his(who was apparently close to Ali's corner) claimed he heard him say those words.
There is actually more evidence to suggest Frazier quit in his corner
Hell, we got ourselves an opinionated bitch who is afraid to post his real user name. Also prove Frazier quit!!!!!!! Love to see you fight him even now!!!!! Must be a Klit fan!!!!!!!!! Cunt!!!!!
1. Diego Corrales-Jose Luis Castillo I
2. Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier III
3. (tie) Archie Moore-Yvon Durelle I & Matthew Saad Muhammad-Marvin Johnson I
Somewhere WAY below: Muhammad Ali-George Foreman
MY vote goes to "Thrilla", and I am biased. Just imagine a 15 year old watching his first boxing fight, LIVE!!!
The "Rumble" was a stage were we all saw a genius at work, first time we've heard of the phrase "Rope-A-Dope". Who would have thunk that Ali will fight that way???
Fighters say a lot of crazy things in the heat of battle. Ali would have carried on. He was comfortably ahead on the cards, and Frazier was no more than a punching bag at the point of stoppage, providing very little in return.
I know, and both guys gave everything, to the point where Ali collapsed. fuck man they killed each other in there.I wish the Klits or other heavies showed that heart nowadays. Thats what gets to me about the Klithuggers, i mean they are good fighters in their own respect but to class them as greats when people like Frazier, Ali, Liston, Foreman, Dempsey have been and done it.
Both were amazing fights and had many different elements but which will go down as 'the greatest'???

Manila x 10000000
Zaire is more famous than good as Ali basically just sonned Foreman, letting him rain shots and the beating his ass in spurts. Ali-Frazier was two-way hell and arguably the best fight ever.
