He came back to fight any decent Welterweight out there...and wouldn't care if it was on a HBO Main Event card...
Fight Quintana, fight Berto, fight Abregu, fight Brook, fight Collazo, hell even Steve Forbes.......point is, come back after a 2 yr layoff, do a "tune-up" fight to get your $hit back, take a 80/20 cut from whatever purse the fight would've been, and wait for the Elite's to sort each other out then step in and make your money again.....
But coming back to fight Marquez, making a reported $15mili while giving Marquez $3-5mili, making him come up to WW, and Floyd being the "stronger, faster, younger etc.." just doesn't do it for me as a fan. Don't get me wrong...I will be watching on Sept. 19th....but at a buddy's expense...

OK you got plaster using margarito who gets knocket out by shane ou maragrito promoter arum who likes screwing with floyd. You got shane who ducked mayweather and made up a toothache. You got Cotto who got knocked out by margarito and didn't want none at 140.He would of probably fought margarito but he had to fight the guy who beat zab judah. Then everyone demanded a de la hoya bout ya floyd haters want floyd to fight someone then when he does ya say he ducked this guy and fought this other guy instead.Im done here if you don't mind il be watching one piece.
What does 2009 have to do with 2007 and 2008?
Nothing.
Floyd regarding Shane, "I don't fight sparring partners".
Regarding Cotto, "he needs to get his PPVs up"
Keep trying and I'll keep shutting you down.
lol "everyone demanding the DLH fight",
who demanded that?
Margarito, Cotto, Shane?
What happened?
Floyd doesn't need to worry about what they bring to the table in terms of sales because hes a "megastar" and "cash cow" and we all know when you're those,
you can carry a fight by your name alone.

He'd have a hard time selling tickets even if he fought a 147 pounder...especially when you factor in the layoff
Floyd can sell tickets...but he aint no DLH
Fighting Marquez was most likely a shot at Pac and he could say he beat the #2 guy on the P4P list...
Im not going to blame you because it's not your fault but would you fight one of the best who everyone is pressuring you to fight who offers alot of money (wich floyd is gonna obviously pick) or cotto who ain't want none at 140.You should acknowledge the fact he beat a solid true 154 pounder who would beat every other 154 pounder and ODLH brings money to the table.

Would you have respected Floyd more if he came out of retirement and fought and KO'd the guy who KO'd Pacquaio early in his career? Would that prove a point to you and the other haters on this site?
Obviously you missed my point regarding this thread......:banghead:
Unless its sarcasm.......then we're good. :beerchug:

Floyd stans have been saying since 2006 he was going to get around to fighting the best welters,
we're a few months shy of 2010,
so when is it going to start?

No offense taken Webb.....it is just my opinion...and I welcome a discussion and debate of boxing minds....
Fact is that I use to be one of the biggest Floyd fans out there.....before the term "nuthugger", "stans" or whatever other derogatory boxing fan terms were created....I think it was the Tony Pep fight that caught my eye about Floyd....back when he was still "Pretty Boy" Floyd....and to this day...I am a huge fan of his boxing skills...but his mouth and antics make me hate him more and more every time I see an article that reinforces my feelings...
I tell you the truth when I say "I would respect him more".....becuase what the fuk do I gain in lying if I said "This fight is exactly what boxing needs right now"....becuase it isn't...
I created another thread weeks ago about "Awaiting the exorcism of Money...and the return of Pretty Boy".....check it out and hopefully you and others will see that I am not a Hater of Floyd the fighter....but Floyd the fronter.....
I too believe that he is using this fight with Marquez to setup a Pacquiao "PPV Record Shattering Fight".....but its a gamble....if he doesn't perform to the standards that everyone is expecting (KO win) AND the PPV #s don't sell above 500K.....he will lose his negotiating power....and will outprice himself out of a Pacquiao fight.
Regarding saying he would still be duckin Cotto or Mosley.....NO ONE in their right minds would say that had he came back for a tune-up against a legit WW contender......THEN go into a Cotto/Mosley fight.
ok fightfan, thanks for the in depth post on your position now I have a better sense of where you are coming from. :boxing:
No exactly because he retired because he wanted to take a brake he has every right to take a break and he reitred P4P#1 yes hes the best. Not to worry because he should fight half the bums mentioned he only needs a ssm, cotto, pac, marquez and then he can retire for good.Cuz he beat collazo, forbes, berto, isaac haltasho they gonna say he ducked the best so lets leave it at that.

I guess once you reach a level of Floyd, retire, comeback after 2 yrs a tune-up is not needed.....
Marquez....given Win...if not in dominating fashion...then wasn't even worth fighting....Pacquiao....should've fought 1st...but wanted to go the A-B-C route or do this fight as an "investment"....(see my other response for definition of "investment")
Bottom line....if Floyd does not KO Marquez...which I believe he will, he will lose many more fans....and IF his PPV does not do better than 500K buys...double wammy....:werd:

I didnt say PPV doesnt matter. So who the F**K are you replying to. You seem like youre a taste retarded. You got a history of hate so I get it. Let me play the crystal ball for a second. mmmmmmmmmmmm. Youre right, by God youre right. They wont split 50-50 because they wont be fighting after Cotto gets in that ass.
lol, look at your post.... who's hating now?
No disrespect for the TS or anyone else, BUT when they say I would have respected Floyd if he fought a legit welter, I don't at ALL believe them. The reason I say that is because NO MATTER who he would have fought, you all would have STILL ripped the man to shreds. I see it all the time around here. From day one people have down this fight as pointless and blah blah blah, but if he came back and fought a no named welter or a middle of the pack welter, ya'll would STILL say that he is ducking Cotto and Mosley.
As a FAN OF BOXING (a FAN of Mayweather as well), its good to see him back. I don't knock him for fighting JMM. The reason is because I PERSONALLY FEEL that he is trying to prove a point to Pac by convincingly beating the guy that the vast majority of the boxing community believes beat him. In doing so, the plot for the May-Pac fight get thicker. That is how I PERSONALLY FEEL and I could be wrong. But if Cotto beats Pac, then the May-Cotto fight is HUGE.
So as the HARDCORE fans of the sport of boxing, we are in a good position because we will see some good fights to close out this year and the top of next year.

Thats too many average fighters too fight for low money and all floyd has to do is beat Marquez,Pacquiao,Cotto,SSm,and anyone else whos worth fighting.

Sounds like good business to me.
Anyway Floyd's fight against Marquez is actually more difficult that the ones you listed above as he has really good boxing ability which I feel is necessary to beat Floyd. Baldomir an average size Welterweight was schooled by Floyd. Zab Judah gave Floyd some difficulties because of his overall ability.
But yet....if Zab were to fight Pacquiao....ask yourself would Zab give Pac fits because of his ability? 99% of the people you ask that question would tell you that Pacquiao would dominate that fight...and possibly KJTFO (knock Judah the fuk out). And that ain't no nuthuggin talkin....

Your "respect" means nothing, but Marquez is a bigger name than any of those fighters and has fought Pac and given him trouble, setting up that matchup.
If he had fought any of those fighters, it would be considered easier pickins that Marquez.
So if Floyd then under the assumption that whoever Manny was going to fight he would win....yet not knowing that he would be fighting Cotto?
If Manny can't get past Cotto...I believe he will via late round ref stoppage or UD.....then where does that leave Floyd...back up against the wall to fight Cotto? Mosley? Clottey? The public's interest in a Mayweather/ Pacquiao fight will have gone down...albeit a little...but a Cotto/ Mayweather fight would blow that potential match out the water.....

Respect that my "respect" means nothing....AGAIN....Floyd is taking the formula of him being fighter C....."If fighter A (Pac) beat fighter B (JMM) and fighter C (Floyd) beats fighter B more convincingly....than Fighter C should easily handle fighter A"...kinda like Pac did with DLH and Hatton....but we all know this not to be true.
My purpose to starting this thread was not to say Marquez isn't a worthy opponent...but to state that I WOULD RESPECT FLOYD MORE IF HE CAMEBACK AND FOUGHT A DECENT WW, then go on to the mega fights...(Cotto, Pac, Shane, Clottey, P-Will) on his hitlist....
Floyd did this fight as an investment....if he beats marquez soundingly, which I think he will...he believes that he should get the lion's share in a fight with Pacquiao......but yet he goes around and is mouthing off about not fighting other WWs due to them either "having a Loss on their record" or "them not being a big enough attraction to fight Money Mayweather"......Funny how if Oscar or Hatton used this as an excuse to not fight Floyd....how Floyd's ego would've been affected.....BUT they accepted the fight because Floyd WAS THE BEST....I think it would only be fair to us as fight fans that Floyd returned the favor to other fighters willing to prove that they are the BEST AS WELL....in the Welterweight Division.....this would be different if Floyd came down to Marquez's division...MORE RESPECT would've been given and credibility to this fight....but all for not.
Sounds like good business to me.

Business is one thing....but as fans...we don't want anything to do with the business side of boxing unless we get a great fight.
The fight with Marquez will be a "good" not great fight....Marquez struggled against Juan Diaz for the 1st 5-6 rounds....until Marquez figured him out and Diaz gassed out...Floyd is not Diaz....so he will not gass out, nor will Marquez figure him out. So my money will not go to this business venture for Floyd....good thing I know of a couple of die-hard Floyd stans that are always willing to pay for a fight...although fewer and fewer are becoming hard to find....
Baldomir won the titles of Zab via a fluke.....Zab could've UD Floyd had he not lost his temper....and the fighters I listed were for "tune-up" purposes...not for comeback of the year candidate. Get a WW tune-up fight under his belt...gain some respect and credibility...then go for the mega-fights with casual fans willing to pay $49.95 and come out a winner / winner chicken dinner....
You should check out his final match inthe olympics and maybe youll think different. Youre a history buff so you already know. I dont think ODL has any upcoming fights. You know of any. Oh.
Muhammed Ali doesn't have any fights coming up either,
but hes still one of the most recognized sports figures in the world.
btw,
the final match in the Olympics determines who gets gold and silver,
not bronze or 4th place.
The final match in the Olympics was actually Kamsing Somluck vs
Serafim Todorov
