Tickets go on sale Friday, August 28 at noontime for Top Rank’s hot ‘Island Warriors’ championship fight card featuring world champions Juan Manuel Lopez of Puerto Rico and Yuriorkis Gamboa of Cuba in world title defenses on October 10 at Madison Square Garden. Bob Arum of Top Rank made the announcement today. Arum, Lopez and Gamboa plus other top fighters on ‘Island Warriors’ will be at press conference Thursday in New York City. “This is a very exciting event and all of us at Top Rank are proud to present it,” said Arum.
Lopez will defend his WBO Jr Featherweight title against Rogers Mtagwa, who boxes for Philadelphia promoter Russell Peltz. Gamboa will defend his WBA Featherweight title against challenger Whyber Garcia of Panama at the WAMU Theatre inside of Madison Square Garden. In a heavyweight bout, unbeatens Odlanier Solis of Cuba and Kevin Johnson of Asbury Park, N.J., will box 10 rounds. USA Olympian Vanes ‘Nightmare’ Martirosyan of Glendale, Ca., will go into his biggest bout against Carlos Nascimento of Brazil. Arum said the card will include Russian Olympian Matt Korobov, an unbeaten middleweight who strikes with power.
Tickets, priced at $250, $150, $75 and $50, go on sale Friday, August 28 at 12 Noon and will be available at the Madison Square Garden Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets or online at www.thegarden.com. Island Warriors — Latin Fury 12 — is available on Pay Per View and is promoted by Top Rank, in association with Arena Box and PR Best Boxing.
arum is setting up JML/gamboa
Seems like it.
First off, why is Cotto-Urkal in your signature?
Second, both of these opponents are bullshit.
Rogers Mtagwa lost to... BILLY DIB FFS.
Whyber Garcia lost to Jorge Linares, Edwin Valero, Vladimir Perreira (former champion who lost to Erik Aiken... a really bad loss), Daniel Maldonado (undefeated at the time) and some guy named Roinet Caballero twice. He doesn't exactly seem to be worthy of a title shot.
Some people are bitchin about this card but what else can Arum do? No more FNF,No HBO dates left and SHOW is full...I think the best fight will be Johnson-Solis. Lopez,Gamboa,Martirosyian and a good Heavyweight scarp IM BUYIN!
add 10 bucks for HD...
which is such bullshit...
a regular ppv movie is 3.99 with HD its 6.99
thats 3 bucks... why is an event 10?
and for better clarity? it should be HD ANYWAYS!
I remember Floyd Hatton being 65 dollars with HD
u know how much the ppv is?
Im a PPV buyer not a streamer, so i gata buy ALLLLL the ppvs... and even though the summer didnt have much, Im gonna get slammed this fall/winter with ppv bills
