Come on man, at the time how many of those 89 were real opposition?, He was a good fighter but in my view out of all the "all time greats" people talk about, hes highly overrated. What do you think about his 89-0 record?

You left out title fights. The man has the greatest amount of successful title fights in history.

This thread is very depressing That someone thinks that Chavez Record is a Fraud :nonono:
Your views dont even matter because you were probably in diapers when he use to fight in his prime, I hate motha ****ers that try to judge fighters from the past when they wernt even around to know who was who back then, but answer me this if he was so overated why is it that he was # 1 and 2 P4P fighter of the world for so long???? :boxing: do your research son!
Don't pay them no mind man. These same kids think Kobe is better than Jordan, real hip hop is Lil Wayne and that JCC fought nothing but bums...
The FACTS are, JCC did fight a lot of times to stay busy, that was his strategy. He also defeated all the top contenders and titlist at his current weight. He was more than a great fighter, he was a legend. His body attack, chin and accuracy is up there with anyone who ever laced up gloves....

No one thinks Chavez is great because of his undefeated record. Use your brain.
That's just the problem.......they don't know how to usde their brain. A lot of old-time fighters has padded record, but it's also littered with ATG's and HOF. 89-0 takes a lot of consistency. And for the one who says 39-0 of PBF is more impressive.....just 39 fights and Floyd is already complaining of his body breaking dow. What more if he has double that fights....even against bums.

come on? in your 83rd fight and you are fighting Bruce Pearson with this record 10-10-1
71 fight Russell Mosley 4-3-1
70 fight Akwei Addo 5-3-0
those are record for someone under 20 fights
Those were only stay-busy fights in between real competition. Chavez wanted to fight almost every month.
Pernell Whitaker fought a 7-4 bum named Ben Baez before taking on Julio Cesar Chavez and Buddy McGirt. He had also fought 12-13 Jerry Smith and 7-16 Martin Galvan while reigning as the world champion.
in his early days he was fighting like every other week jus to survive in mexico, he didnt give a shit about comp, he was jus a 15 year old kid who had brothas and sistas who had to eat, but later in his carrer he fought reall good fighters.
who cares if he beat a lot of nobodies. he also has multiple wins over top ten competition, including plnety of future or former world champions.

Tony Lopez(#9 or higher)
Giovanni Parisi(#7)
David Kamau(#6)
the 89-0 doesnt mean much by itself. add in the fact that he was fighting very high level opposition, and it means a hell of a lot more.
its also overlooked that Chavez fought and beat two of the fastest fighters in the history of boxing, Hector Camacho and Meldrick Taylor.
he was 10 years into his career and at his 3rd weight class before his first controversial fight(Meldrick Taylor) and 13 years into his career and 4th weight class before his first loss(Whitaker)
u know who else had a lot of nobodies in their record? sugar ray robinson.
he had a lot of fights with guys who had 20 to 30 losses some had horrendous win loss records but nobody questions his all time great status.

Please point out a single fighter today who fought as many contenders/future hall of famers.
Robinson earned his place in history, so has Julio Cesar Chavez.
exactly but floyd has fought tough comp. Dont gimme that.
I agree with you, being undefeated or 89-0 doesn't really mean alot if you're just fighting tomato cans. JCC was good, but his record is definitely one of the most padded.
Chavez didnt lose until he was 32 years old, with over 90 fights under his belt.
It is well known that fighters at the lower weights burn out faster than the heavier fighters. Consider that and note that Chavez worked and trained his ass off during the first 13 years of his carreer without a loss. He threw alot of punches, took alot of punches, and never went down or lost.
He was steadily in decline by 93 when Whitaker beat him. They were within bounds of eachother in 87-89 but I highly doubt team Whitaker was willing to put their boy in with Chavez in those years.
