Low risk with a high reward or high risk with low reward? So many people hate on boxers who choose money over legacy. Im one that feel the money is screwing up boxing but that is looking at it from a fan point of view. Look at it from a boxers point of view. Buisness first fight second.
We can't hate on Mayweather (even though I can't stand the guy as a boxer, but I respect him to the up most as a buisness man) for getting money first then think of his legacy second.
We can't hate on boxers who want to fight a smaller boxer at a catch weight to make more money then he would if he was to clean out his own division.
As a fan of boxing I dont like it but as a buisness man I understand.
Hmmm....
Every aspiring boxer desires to one day command the big bucks and notoriety.
Just about every amateur boxer fights many fights at no or low pay at the start of his career.
When they've proven themselves in the ring against increasingly tough competition, the recogntition and dollar signs start to generate a glimmer of hope of one day becoming world champ commanding the high dollar.
Once a fighter's name is recognized as world champion, he is afforded the low risk, high reward fights, and high risk, high reward fights as well to build his legacy.
For the sake of the poll, low risk high reward is the common choice because low reward with a high risk makes little sense when a fighter's got a family to feed, a roof to maintain, and taxes to pay. Not to mention the cuts his team takes to perform their jobs, and looming medical bills on the horizon if he suffers a debilitating, career ending injury.
That's about all I can gather for now.
Good post, ts. Green K sent.
It's almpost as if people expect and want Floyd to make bad business moves. He's not a moron, he won't do that
Who said anything about Floyd?

There should be a happy medium. Can't blame a fighter for wanting to cash in, but when they do it consistently they're depriving the fans who make it possible for them to get those paydays.
i dont believe that. Like i said, every person that takes this sport for a living wants to be remembered. Now at a given point they realize that there is no hope for that or something happens that makes them change the way they look at it, kinda losing the purpose(pavlik), so the game changes and he looks at it at a way to pay the bills(paulie). however, they look for legacy and so they should. If u make a big name for urself, big money fights WILL come along the way
At the end of the day, fighters would like to make an easy 10 million over a hard 10 million.
personally and this is my own choice i would take a high risk fight for a low reward. But that is just me, when im at the top of the boxing world if the fans want to see a fight ide gladly sign a 60-40 contract even if i was getting the smaller peice, personally when i become world champ i dont want to be a champion that fights for money, i wanna be one that will fight the fighters that could without a doubt whipe the floor with me becuase i want to fight exciting fights and fight the fighters that would make me a better fighter.
But if i had a family then i could see going for the money becuase it is a mans job to support his family before anything else.
But, if a fighter can make the amount if money in a low risk fight, legacy will be the last thing on a fighters mind!

Obviously you want to make the most money possible, but when you choose not to take the big challenges that also comes with a big purse, that's where your legacy is in question.

It has to be a combination of both. High reward doesn't always mean a good payday. Every sportsman is in the business to make a name for himself so fighting just for money is not true or good. People are proud and want to be remembered. As far as the money goes, well, that's why u have lawyers and promoters, to have them take care of that side. However, as a boxer with a good name and moving up; why would u want to fight someone who will bring little money and at the same time nothing to ur legacy? ex. Williams vs most anybody in the big leagues. Boxing IS a tough sport, so taking care of the financial side is very important, but every single boxer has a dream of becoming a champion and be remembered just as much as every college or nba rookie basketball player, etc.
some fighters lose respect because all they end up caring about is having an easy fight with a good payday, yet us as fans want to see the best fights possible. Becoming a respected boxer with a good legacy WILL bring u good money anyways
Well as with economics, if you have a chance of Low risk High reward that is the way to go. But I prefer High Risk with High reward wich it is supposed to be that way. One thing must go with the other if you are going to take high risk there should be a reward for that.
So for the sake of the options Low Risk, High Reward....
But the truth should be High Risk with High Reward......
I forgot to mention that I hate catch weights but if it put together a great fight then Im all for it.
That is why catch weights are being made to produce a great fight and to make things possible.
