Just watched the Tyson years on ESPN and there was a segment showing Tyson and Cus'Damato together and Cus was talking about how people only die when they've got nothing worth living for anymore and that Tyson was keeping him alive.
Mike acted like such a gentleman around Cus and then it showed Tyson carrying his coffin at his funeral and I think there was an interview with Cus' wife saying Tyson told her that everyone told him he was great and Cus was the only person that told him when he was doing things wrong.
They had Lionel Ritchie playing in the background too. Aw damn man :bottle:
...one of the coolest things I ever heard was a few years ago when Mike turned a certain age, I assume it was 40, and he found out only then that Cus had put money into some kind of trust for him to receive at that age. Cus had no idea Mike would become a multi multi millionaire for sure but he thought enough of him to put some money away for him to have...Tyson said the money didnt actually amount to a great deal but that the thought of him doing that for him was MONUMENTAL
I have the TYSON documentary on DVD...Tyson was crying so hard, man, when talking about Cus he could hardly even talk!
I saw the Tyson documentary in the theatre earlier this summer and you're right. To this day he cries when talking about D'amato.
I now live in houston but i remember when i lived in NY and I was walking on 14th street/union square going home and there use to be a gym on 14th street called Grammercy gym and tyson was walking out of it with kevin rooney around 1986-88 and i stppoed and asked hin for an autograph and he was soooooooo nice and shy. I hate that i don't have that autograph anymore since it was right before he won his 1st title.
