Sugar Ray Robinson is certainly one of the best. But I think, in a subjective sense, that Muhammad Ali is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the history of boxing.
Why Ali...
Great character, great courage - the signs of a great champion. The fact he was 60, 70 pounds heavier and as much a stylish boxer as Sugar Ray Robinson. Just all-around technical ring generalship (makes him the best). He could take out the most intimidating fighters in the world with one punch or a combination of punches. This man had it all.
Thoughts?
How can you go off what you see if you haven't even watched many of his fights? I have seen all of his recorded fights, and he was hands down the greatest HW ever, and one of the most gifted fighters ever.
sonny liston was the greatest heavyweight ever?
I only go off of what I see, I've only seen the two fights with ali and a few of his fights in the late 60s. From what I saw it wasn't as great as you guys say it is. A good jab to me is something like Ali's or Wlad's, it hurts you, busts you up, cuts you, and discourages you.

a heavy weight being considered the very best p4p of all time, is pushing it. you never see the kind of ability you would by a p4p great in a lower weight division.
ali is overrated in my opinion. lol hes a back in the day mayweather.
look at his resume, watch his fights. you won't be saying that afterwards

Why is eubank jumping on Alis wagon for. I dont know who the best p4p boxer ever is. I havent seen all of them, and dont know every boxers history, so im not going to say SRR.
But it cant be ali can it? He couldnt fight on the inside and was just a dancer and jabber who could take punishment.
Ali probably had the greatest resume of all time.
Norton, Frazier, Foreman, Chuvalo, Shavers, Patterson, Quarry, Mathis(very underrated, him and his son), Quarry, Bonavena, Liston, Moore,Folley. Ali has one of the best if not, prolly the best resume of all time.
:haha: Liston not known for his jab? :haha: Ask any boxing historian to name the three best Heavyweight jabs in boxing history and damn near EVERY one of them will have Holmes and Liston as two of the three

i love ali, he beat the best heavyweight comp in history but no.his in fighting was sub par.ray on the other hand could do everything, and beat countless hall of famers.
Ali's fighting was "sub par"? Wow. I'm just shaking my head at some of these comments. :nonono:
Oh come on how anyone counts that Holmes fight is beyond me, not only was Ali shot then but he Parkinsons.
Larry Holmes not kow for his jab?
Wtf?
I was talking out terrell and liston sorry for the grammatical error

:rofl: Larry Holmes "not known for his jab". I wonder how some people here can even claim that they follow boxing.
How could Ali not deal with the jab?
Liston was known to have one of the best jabs in histroy and Ali nullified it and destroyed him
Terell had a GREAT jab and Ali dusted him with eaase.
I agree and I'll add Foreman who had a powerful left jab. That was just another poster making comments about something he obviously knows nothing about.
Ali couldn't get out of the way of Norton's jab, Larry Holmes' jab tagged him all night, these guys aren't really known for their jabs neither.

Eubank said it was subjective and didn't say that Ali's accomplishements were better, so Eubank is not wrong.
Ray Robinson is the real P4P king because he won titles in several weights and fought top competition. Ali fought great competition too and was much bigger as a man than SRR, it's not even debatable. Ali is known by everybody and everywhere, just like Tyson.
Eubank is wrong.
Ali couldn't deal with a jab.
