So they fought all those years ago at 160. Both would go on, in their respective divisions, to become as undisputed as undisputed can possibly get. They never fought again. Two 40 year-olds in the closing stages of their careers.
Isn't it about time this match was made? I know it's fallen through over and over again, but now's as good a time as any. If Jones manages to dispatch of Green at 180-ish (awesome, a 5-division champ), wouldn't it make sense to come back down to 175 and meet Hopkins for a final farewell each next year?
Were it to happen, who'd win?
Bernard has been inactive for 15 months by the time he will fight... thats if he even fights by january... thats 15 months of inactivity by 45 years old
as of november, green will be roys 4th fight in 12 months... the most active hes been since he was 25
roys cryptonite is hard hitting pressure fighters and volume punchers... hardly bernard
it would be a very close fight... but i think roys hand speed would be a problem for bernard
Now suddenly this fight is close in a poll.
People change theyre minds on boxers in such small spaces of time to such a large degree it does make you wonder.
Nard by decision, around 8-4.
I see Popkins takin this fight by decision. Hes just too accurate now and its pretty much universally known fact that Hop was not the fighter he is today. He like a few other fighters only got better as they got older. Roy has declined substantially but still has his insanely fast hands, and thats even a older slowed down Roy.
Well maybe he wouldn't have if he listened to his corner, doubled the fukkin jab and touched Hop in the nuts:D But you and Bully have a bet if Hopkins/Jones 2 ever happens.
I would never bet against Roy, I couldn't, but there is no way he beats Hopkins now IMO.

haters!! :boxing:
They don't realize that Jones is now a boxing equivalent to a hoopty. It will still get you around, but bring it close to other whips and it gets smoked.
I agree that Jones is way past it and will continue to decline, but this isn't the best Hopkins either. They are both in decline, and honestly I think Hop was just having a great night against the right opponent last time out. When does he usually look that fast and fight for 12 full rounds in recent memory?
I think you are missing the point.
Hopkins is still arguably the best fighter in the world at 175 pounds. There is noone in the world who would be clearly be favoured over him at that weight. He is coming off a very impressive performance against an elite fighter and nearly beat Calzaghe just before that.
Roy hasn't come close to beating an elite fighter in years.

Hopkins has declined, but his style isn't effected as much as Jones' is by it. Also Hopkins has shown that he can beat the elite fighters, Jones hasn't beaten a top fighter since he fought Tarver the first time almost 6 years ago, albiet looking very bad in that fight.
Bernard looks as wiley as ever in the ring these days whilst the last time Roy came up against a top class fighter he looked sluggish...I'd hope that Roy would make it an entertaining fight but I can't see past B Hop especially considering I know how determined he would be to defeat Roy.
Real fair comparison ^^^^.....look they are both active still and both up there in age. I wouldn't say it would be a blowout for Jones if he won but to act like he doesn't have a chance is laughable.....
Roy Jones is DONE on the elite level. He got stretched twice 5 years ago, fought some D and C level competiiton fooled a few, fought a no hoper in Trinidad, beat him and he had people fooled with his magic trick, and then Calzaghe showed eeryone what Glenn Jonson did years earlier, that he was done and couldn't fight at the top level anymore. After that loss with wins over Sheika and Lacy the smoke and mirrors effect is back after fighting two shot to ship opponents that were never good to begin with, and now people think Jones can hang with the elite at 175 and above? Forget that. Jones is done and has been for a while. I want him to beat green and then retire.
Bernard by Unanimous Decision.
Roy is done at the elite level. His speed allows him to beat B-level fighters but as far as fighting competitively against the best of the best is concerned, his career is over.
Co-sign. However, I don't see Hopkins fighting him. I doubt he would be satisfied with beating a hoopty.
I Lol'd...but in all seriousness. I think BHop makes Roy look even older than he is now. Roy aint gonna be able to dance and play cute and shit in there with Hopkins...he also wont land all those shots he did on Lacy either. BHop UD
