Miguel Cotto is cleary the underdog here, but what strategy do you think Cotto has to use to make the upset happen?(what fight does he have to fight)
"Here are my keys to success"/Plan that I would use if I was working with Miguel
1. condition harder than he ever has in his life. i.e. Lots of roadwork.
2. apply a lot of pressure every minute of the fight.
3. cut off the ring at every possible opportunity.
4. jab untill his arm falls off.
5. use the straight right and lead with it often.
6. don't throw bombs and go for the knockout. just hit the target.
7. since pac likes to utilize his great footwork and move in and out constantly, timing will be absolutely critical for cotto. he really has to try and catch pac coming in as much as possible. (utilizing #5).
8. cover up and use the gloves to block/parry often. he can't try and use head movement to stay clear of pac's shots like he did with margarito.
9. spar with calderon as much as possible
say WHO is faster than zab? pacman?
well call me a moron, cuz pacman is faster than zab....
I think i did... :boxing: -- seriously , you don't really believe he is measurable faster than Zab do you? That is disingenuous, Manny is fast but even if you are right(just for arguments sake) he is not much faster. We know how well timing can off set speed , right?
O, for you next act , you will say Manny hits harder than Shane. Smiles...
What? look what he did to "super" Judah , come on man his timing is impeccable. Dont any moron say he is faster than Zab.... please dont!!

You'd have to have excellent timing and countering skills(I.E. Marquez) and hope it's enough to keep him off you, unfotunately Cotto's not as skilled a boxer as Marquez and the speed & pressure will most likely be too much for him.

and also, keep from getting cut himself. manny won't let up like clottey did. if cotto gets cut, especially early, its lights out.
Jump on him, show him no respect, and try to blast the little man out. Show us that WWs can beat up FWs.
I don't know if you were joking or not but it is not a horrible idea.
Some are saying respect Manny power, i am not saying disrespect it but he is the larger man and the shorter the fight the better for Cotto ( wears down late). They would be foolish not to at least look at this option. Make it a war, force Manny to fight for his life-- you know he will , and i am sorry i know Manny is Super-man and all but Cotto punches harder no matter what the nut-huggers say.

Run, then pot-shot when possible- hope to not get caught up in a 10 punch combo
Lead right hands and left hooks to the body all night.
I would attack him like a killer whale would a baby sea lion!!!

yeah that worked real well for Hatton. Smart pressure gentleman, the jab, go downstairs keep your guard up and throw at least 60- 70 punches per round.
Its a good thing he wont be the one going backwards.
I agree with you...he will be going downwards...to the canvas. :)
(couldn't help it...was too easy...heh.)
I have no predictions, i just think Cotto will win.
Best way to beat Pacquiao is to improve Cotto's footwork. Cotto needs more agility to handle Pacquiao's speed. We know Pacquiao will be fighting in and out against Cotto. I think footwork is the key.
Throw the jab.
Try to fight on the inside.
Cut off the ring to nullify Pac's foot speed.
Work the body.
Use your natural size and strength in clinches to bully Pac and put him where you want him.
Train for the fight of your life.
Time Pac when he lunges in and catch him with a straight right or left hook. Easier said then done, but I believe Cotto can and will do it.
To beat Pacman, Cotto needs to work the body consistently.
Yep. Didn't read many posts on this thread, but I'm going to assume that any that are worth a shit, make this exact point.
Manny has to have room to throw that left, which is without question his most dangerous punch. Yeah, his right hook is great, but that lightning-fast straight left is his money-maker. Miguel needs to stay inside and throw hard right hands to Manny's body, over, and over, and over, while keeping his own left high to keep Manny's hook from putting him on his shorts. And while everyone knows Manny is tough, he's not going to be much good in late rounds after having his guts bruised by right hands from Cotto all night.
Against a southpaw? Fail.
Lead right hands and left hooks to the body all night.
I would attack him like a killer whale would a baby sea lion!!!

Most of this is common sense. But leading with the straight right is gonna get him countered a lot. It's not really smart to lead with a right hand unless you are seriously in another class than your opponent or you are just THAT much faster (Ie. Pac vs DLH- it was a straight left for Pac since he's a southpaw).
Leading with the right hand is very dangerous. I would not advise that at all, especially against someone as fast as Pac.
HOLY SHIT! You've discovered the secret to beating Pac! WOW! I'm sure you must be a hall of fame trainer pretending to be some idiot on boxingscene. We just gotta tell Cotto how easy it is and then he's set! I can't wait to give him the news!
da chosen 1 is stupid.
I said Often not Always,If Miguel were to always lead with his right hand/straight right during the fight against Pacquiao that would be idiotic.Hence the word "often".Cotto would have to be spontaneous/ lead with his right hand in spurts when pacquiao least expects its.So he's not "countered alot" as you stated, and with a jab in the mix he'd keep manny honest,so he's able to lead with his straight right and not get countered as much.
