the knock out is a great thing, but who you knock out is important too.
True, but Lacy was looking impressive. People get carried away with calling all of his opponents "bums" because he did fight some solid fighters. It not like he was beating all unranked boxers. It's easy to say that after the fact.
You have to remember he was still a young developing fighter. For where he was at that point in his career he was very impressive, but he got overrated because of the style and weakness of the division. People associated Calzaghe's reign with how bad super middleweight was and when Lacy started beating all those people he was put on Calzaghe's level. He may have turned out to be much better if Calzaghe had not destroyed every ounce of confidence Lacy had.
It really might have been better for Lacy if Calzaghe had KO power and had taken him out within 8 rounds instead of spending 12 rounds showing him just how much better he was.
I think he was always a B level fighter. Not good enough to be an elite but pretty good. People got excited about his power/physique cause it reminded them of a Super middleweight mike tyson
Better than most people acknowledge. Lacy was banging people out in those days and Calzaghe may have even been the underdog, I don't remember. But That was a very impressive win for Calzaghe.

It's very possible that he was over rated.

he was a par fighter, with a sub par record. i dont think calzaghie finished his carrere, i just think he was so exposed people got into the ring with them with more confidence....joes ass whooping was bad to tho
Watch how bad Jones schools Lacy on Sat night and then see how washed up you think he is. Calzaghe is retired so he won't be fighting anyone at 43 :fing02:
jones isn't washed up? i don't see how beating a bum in lacy(one of calzaghe's best wins btw) means he's not shot. remember when he tried to fight top fighters? tarver johnson and calzaghe? he's clearly washed up.
you said there is no difference between 43 and 35 but calzaghe won't even be fighting at 43 along with 99 percent of all fighters which proves my point. most people can't survive in a sport where people punch you(or in calzaghe's case try to but miss) and still fight effectively at 43.
does age really matter when you are shot like jones jr? let's wait and see what top 10 p4p guys calzaghe is fighting at age 43 shall we?

They are all around the same age. If they were better at a younger age then so would Calzaghe right? He would have beaten them all the same but Hopkins would have given him more troubles, he would still beat Jones even a young Jones. Calzaghe may not have been the prettiest but he still wins them all and makes great fighters look less than great.

he just got exposed. people where affraid to fight him. once a guy stepped up and said forget that and fight him. he got beat up. to answer the question he was a good fighter that was hyped up
Man, even your highlight reel of JC looks bad, he also isn't that great. Better than Lacy, yes, better than Kessler? yes, but i think prime Jones would have beat JC (not as easily as some think but by KO) and Hopkins would have smashed him in the 90's or early 2000's.

He was pretty good, fast hands, good power. His defense was always lacking but he was pretty good with quite a lot of potential, not as good as some people made him out to be though.
very overrated. a young powerful KO artist. people love those type of fighters till they get in the ring and get outboxed then people see all their flaws
He was a prospect that looked the part like Andre berto does now. How he looked played more into his hype than anything else. he looks like a guy that can bang and if he was skilled and really fast would be almost unbeatable. I blame what happened to him on bad management, i have heard Lacy wanted to go there and fight. That being said he was a young fighter that had never been tested at all, he should have never took that fight over there. Lacy stood in there and did what he was supposed to and thats pull a Tyson and take a beating and show some heart. Lacy could have been much better had he been brought along and trained better.
No, Lacy had been tested, just not against a boxer. Lacy and Berto's similarities end at their physiques. Throwing Lacy into the fire and making him travel overseas to do it was completely Shaw's fault.
