Two island nations wrought with colonialism and history of strife.
Do I smell a large marketing push for Top Rank? I wonder what they'll label the fight.
The Ricky Hatton-Manny Pacquiao bout was called East vs. West.
I just hope they focus more on the fighters and not where they're from...but they will.
and who else after that?
Watch out for 13-0 marvin sonsona.. 19yr old kid who's fighting WBO champ Jose Lopez here in September. Incidentally, Lopez was mentioned as Donaire's next opponent, but from the looks of it would rather defend against unproven opposition in Sonsona. Is it me, or are both PR Lopez's seem to be ducking the best fighters around.
what else are they going to bring after this one retire?
nobody in the making
Guess you haven't heard of Nonito Donaire. He's moving up weight after trying to unify the div as people are ducking him left and right. Can't say the same about Lopez who's avoiding Cabellero like the plague.
another thing is its not just asia that doesnt have all of this so called "exposure" that is what i am calling bs on. its a lot of places in the world. so stop bitching about it.
i could give a **** who they use in hollywood and so you know im not mexican im nicaraguan but its alright because i could tell that you were chinese or some shit.
that shit happens all the time in hollywood where they cast whites instead of the actual people. so what? the same can be said about all of other regions of the world as well so no you dont sound stupid.
Again, you're calling BS on what, why don't you answer that first. And what part did i sound stupid, you're the idiot saying it'll take about 100yrs for Philippines to catch up, that's being stupid.
BTW, What do you mean so what? Would you like it if they did a movie about De Lahoya and they cast a white actor or another ethnicity/race to portray him, when there are plenty of Spanish actors that could play the role. BUt never mind, this is not the place to discuss this issue here, so just drop it.
B.S. on what? I'm not talking about downloading music or movies, i'm talking about being an artist of either a musician or as an actor. Asians in general don't appeal in the entertainment industry here in the U.S. Prime example the movie 21, true story about ASian kids, but instead they cast white actors. But let's not discuss this here, this is a boxing forum.
First, i never said that Philippines is a hot bed for boxing, but i did say that the reason why it isn't, is because geographically, we're hampered by being too far. Mexico and especially Puerto Rico is right next to America. And Puerto Rico don't have any problem or don't have to worry about immigration, while Philippines it's a huge obstacle when it comes to immigration. But to say in a hundred years, c'mon now, you're sounding too ignorrant with that. Filipino boxers has been around in the U.S. since the early 20's, don't be stupid.

im calling bs on this. the internet has completely revolutionized everything. if you want to hear music from anywhere get on the net. the philipines as of right now is not a hot bed of boxing. like i previously said to compare the philipines as far as boxing to PR and Mexico its not even close. maybe in a hundred years.

lol. as if the mainstream internet use has been w/ us more than 15yrs, which is just 10% of the whole boxing era.
You're always going to have low-life idiots like that no matter what forum it is. It's quite pathetic. I just can't wait for this fight to happen, I'm really nervous for Manny, but then again i've always been nervous for him no matter who he fights. Personally and loyalty wise, i have Manny winning, but logically, i have to say the edge is on Cotto.
Exactly. It is harder to promote anybody and anyone from the Philippines because of the distance and the fact that we're not within U.S. territory. We can't even get any exposure of anything in the U.S. market whether it'll be Sports, Music, or Hollywood, let alone promoting them in any of those market.

they wont.
in terms of boxing - only peers of PR are America and Mexico.
No doubt, best rivalry in all of boxing is when a Mexican and Puertorican step into a ring to do battle. Nothing better than that.......
Team Philippines vs. Team Puerto Rico is good since Team Mexico seems to be lacking somewhat. JAT
LOL at these FLIPS...Mexico = 100+ WORLD CHAMPS...how many does the philipinas have??? Maybe you should do some research before opening your trap....LOL:booty:
I AGREE WITH YOU 100%. We have 2 very good boxers who respect each other and will try to make this a very good fight. The idiots who make it a racial thing are just idiots, we know who they are.

the only reason we hear more about Puerto Rican and Mexican boxers is because it is easier to bring them in against mainstream US competiton.

I just hope it doesn't turn into some kind of racial shit like what we have here. It really is sad when people purposely make it racial and make racist remarks and comments. I know i won't, i have plenty of close Puerto Rican friends. I AGREE WITH YOU 100%. We have 2 very good boxers who respect each other and will try to make this a very good fight. People its all about exposure,, the only reason we hear more about Puerto Rican and Mexican boxers is because it is easier to bring them in against mainstream US competiton. The fact that Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the US has a lot to do with PR's boxers exposure. There are many Mexicans in the US so there is a lot of money to be made by promoters if the can find good Mexican boxers.
Lately we have seen a lot of fighters from Eastern Europe..It has only been about 15 since the USSR desintegrated allowing boxers from those parts of the world to be exposed.
I believe that you will find great boxers in almost any country. You can be super talented but if no one with connections can find you and bring you to the mainstream no one will know about it.
any way this country vs. country crap is just stupid.
