Michael Marley
It’s like having Dracula as the special guest at a blood bank.
Those won't be chicken bones Drac is sucking on.
It's like taking a prison to Abu Ghraib and telling him he will really enjoy the surfing nights.
It’s the same as having fans of opposing teams sit in the Oakland Raiders end zone nut job section.
It’s like having Sarah Palin (rhymes with failing) speak in front of the white wine liberals on Martha’s Vineyard.
It’s like inviting Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates over to a cop bar on a Fraternal Order of Police party night.
It’s insane, that’s what it is, having the Mexicutioner, Manny Pacquiao, train in the Otomi mountains of Mexico for his Nov. 14 bout against Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico.
Pacquiao, the guy who mastered Erik Morales.
Pacquaio, the guy who battered Marco Antonio Barrera.
Pacquiao, bandito with boxing gloves who dropped Juan Manuel Marquez to the floor four times in two bouts.
I mean, what’s next having the Boston Strangler show people how to do the Heimlich Maneuver?
I am choking up here.
Next thing you know they will have Panama Lewis and Antonio Margarito’s trainer Javier Capetillo giving seminars on how to honestly wrap a fighter’s hands.
Or Paris Hilton and Linsey Lohan will take their party hearty selves to a nunnery and sign up for a balck and white habit.
On the surface, it sounds insane having Pacman train in the country which he has tortured by beating its best boxers.
But it’s a actually a sound idea.
The Mexican will embrace Pacquiao.
One reason is that Mexicans and Filipinos, both once under the rule of Spain, are ethnic cousins anyway.
The biggest reason is that Mexicans love the sport of boxing and warmly embrace any excellent practitioner of the sport.
Once in Mexico City, I met native soccer superstar Hugo Sanchez. I asked him if his popularity compared to that of Mexican ring idol Julio Cesar Chavez.
Sanchez laughed and then graciously told me he might be in second place but that his country’s love for El Gran Campeon could not be matched.
The Otomi mountains served as hallowed training grounds for the great champion from Culiacan, Sinaloa.
Now they can make way for another Hall Of Famer, a first cousin from the Philippines.
Viva Mexcio!
Viva Philippines!
Mayweather claimed he loves Mexico but he never trained there.
This news might really send Juan Ma over the cliff or should I say the Otomi mountains?
Now Pacman and Pacmania is invading his homeland.
My sombrero is packed and ready to go.
lmao!
It's MeXico not Mejico, don't sound ingnorant. Second, I bet you Nacho would take Cotto on if Cotto humbled himself to ask him.
I don't want to be dissrespectful but for the most part, I have found Mexicans to be more knowledgable fans that Puertoricans by far. Mexico has been invloved in boxing at a high level for a very, very long time.
They appreciate great fighters reguardless of where they are from. There was a nice piece done on HBO when Margarito and Cotto were going to fight and they went to two different restaurants. One in PR and the other in East Los Angeles.
The patrons in the East LA place were for Margarito but most picked Cotto to win. Where as in PR, 100% of them picked Cotto and gave no chance to Marg....
Different cultures man...sorry.
green for you
i agree... for most boxers.. but Pacman?? the mexicutioner.. lol.. the man who destroys all mexican in mexico.. thats like bernard hopkins moving and training full time in Puerto Rico.. lol.. People are still mad about the Tito loss and the fact he stepped on the flag didnt help it either.. i think its crazy.. go to the bahamas like they were talking about before. .
No, it's not.
For a start, Pacquio has never made racist comments and nor has he stamped on a national flag in front of scores of cameras.
come on bro , you guys will take him to train in Mejico just because he is fighting a PRican. if he was fighting jmm will you guys let him train in Mej???:grr:

Couldn't dissagree more and you don't know how Mexicans think. Yes We are proud people but Mexicans also embrace champions and people of quality. While Pacman did defeat a lot of Mexican champions, he also lost to Morales and arguably lost to JMM in their second fight.
I think people overstate his "dominance" over Mexican fighters. He's a good guy and a guy that's easy to root for. Plus, Filipino's are like Mexicans in a lot of ways. Both very devote Catholic countries, both hard working and been through a lot in terms of fighting for thier independence and both love the sport of boxing.
Mexico is a great place to train because of the elevation and the quality of gyms and trainers there.
I'm Mexican and I respect Pacquiao very much. He's a great champion and a great person. He's given a lot to his people and you have to respect that.

great post. here, have a green K
this guy is a moron i have been to mexico and live there for a year the people could care less about Pac or boxing . they are to busying earning a liveing to give a f#*k about Pac. if they got a promble with Pac it would be settle in the ring not the streets. Pac going to mexico is not going to put his life in danger you guys are takeing the feud to seriously maybe in the Philippines thats all you got and think the mexican people would react like you by trying to kill a boxer that beat your heros. i can a sure you the mexican people wont act like you guys. thats the impression i get from some of these post of these Pctards that they are animals

you are right..! he is a great fighter and i think that is all that matters.. i'm Puertorican and i think he is the best boxer out now.. and im a devoted miguel cotto fan.. but him taking on all comers and the way he fights is great and i have tremendous respect for him.. great champ and even greater person outside the ring.. no reason for anyone else to say otherwise..
Why didnt any of you guys bring up the fact that the kidnapping rate is crazy high there right now. Also with the drug cartels going to war with movie type weapons doesnt strike as hmm I shouldnt train here to you guys?
but still many Americans go there for vacation if those guys from The Hills had there honeymoon there so it okay.
Pac has some of his friends there that know about this stuff and know how to secure his saftey.
180 days for all foriegner fightingfig even if Canadian or Puerto Rican?

Hopkins threw the Puerto Rican Flag and is abit cocky.
But Pac looks humble and does do alot of publicity stunt.
He also a friend of Erik Morales and some Mexicans are good fans for Pac.
USA is abit expensive also to train American boxer to spar
it has to do with Pacquiao not being an american citizen, he can only spend 180 or somethin days on our soil
First of all, Mexicans arent obsessed with the Mexico- Philippines rivalry as some pacs fans may assume therefore training there wont be a problem. He also wont have to worry about obsessed fans following his every move and serving as a distraction like in SoCal or the phillipines.
As for the article, praising pac is one thing but this Michael Marley guy has a serious problem with Mexicans. He wrote another article earlier this year which is filled with as much nuthugger hate as you'll ever read.

Mexico is a good enviroment to train for boxers.
You got high elevation and also sea beside it and good weather from time to time with not alot of publicity to come.
As well as very good sparring partners
