Last night's "Assault In the Ring" was an amazing documentary that people should definetly watch. There's been discussion on many topic with regards to this documentary but the topic i can pull from it is when Luis Resto breaks down and confesses of his knowing of the tampering of his gloves he also reveals that Panama used to mix a drug into his water that ashma patients would use to open their lungs.... Now in Aaron Pryor and Alexis Arguello's first fight there was the suspicion of the water bottled that Panama Lewis asked for before the 14th round when he ask for water but then specifies, "give me the one I mixed"... Then Aaron Pryor comes out rejuvenated and knocks Arguello out... Do you believe what Resto said? Do you believe Pryor was aware of this? Do you think this blemishes Aaron Pryor's legacy?
Pryor's victory over Arguello that night has always been tainted.
"Legendary Nights" tried to gloss over it quite a bit when they covered the fight back in 2003.
Resto's confession in the car about Lewis' mixing habits certainly contributes even further to the dark cloud over that victory.
I never though highly of Pryor expect that he used some substance to help him win and there was no investagation to it.
When there is alot of money invovle Pro sport will alway have corruption into it not only boxing. There is so much to lose into it.
I even wont be suprised if other boxers like Mayweather, Pac, Cotto....etc use steriods or cheat.
expect Aaron Pryor was caught doing it and have some doubt over his win over Alexis Arguello
For anybody who brings up the rematch, as a way of disproving the events in the first fight ;
In the rematch, Pryor already had the benefit of having figured out Arguello's style the first time around.
And for Arguello (who was coming up in weight yet again) ; his best chance to ever beat Pryor would've been in the first fight. Not the second time around when he'd already had 80+ professional fights and took such a vicious beating in the original matchup.
Agreed, and Alexis had already been past his prime.
Yes ; Pryor was winning the fight.
But he scored the stoppage only after Lewis gave him a drink from "the one that I mixed" and anybody who's seen the fight knows that Pryor came out that round with a burst of stamina and energy that he hadn't shown at all in the prior rounds.
It was a senzu bean, I know it!
The thing is he didn't even struggle with him the second time. He straight up sonned him.
Once again.....

The rematch has nothing to do with what we're talking about here, Bully.
Pryor was beating him regardless, you guys need to realize that.

Pryor`s bottle issue would have been controversial if he lost the 2nd fight with Alexis. Both he won regardless.

As for Pryor, and whether or not he's a cheat ; I would say no.
A quick look at his history gives us nothing whatsoever to condemn him with the label of "cheater" aside from Lewis' mixed bottle.
And the fault for that lies solely with Lewis.
I don't think (knowing his history) anybody would ever accuse Aaron Pryor of being the type of man to cheat.

The win is definently tainted...yea he beat him the second time but we don't know how much that first fight took out of him
I think Pryor still wudda won the first fight but who knows wat cudda happened...

yep, but in the rematch, pryor ko'd him even earlier, and without the bottle.
In the rematch Arguello was also a shell of himself.
Infact ; coming into the first Pryor fight Arguello was considered to be showing signs of slippage.

I think it definitly puts a black cloud over the victory. Especially after the shit that Panama Lewis pulled with the Resto fight -- then having Resto confirm these suspicions on the Assult In The Ring Doc. -- one has to consider that maybe Pryor did have an unfair advantage. His trainer was Mother Fuker, and all signs point to the anwser being yes ... Lewis was slipping him something to give him and advantage. Nothing was ever proven that Lewis was givng him anything other then water, so there's not really 100% proof. Then again if you look at Lewis's history ... than you have to assume that there's a good chance Lewis cheated with what ever was in that bottle to give his fighter an unfair advantage. As for Pryor: I don't think it does anything to his legacy, unless he was in on it and knew about it. The one that is clearly at fault is his trainer.
