The Witter who fought Alexander last Saturday was an even more deteriorated version of the Witter who fought Bradley. After the Bradley loss it was revealed that Witter's father had been diagnosed with a terminal illness only days before the fight and this, for me at least, was a valid explanation for Witter's somewhat sub-par performance.
However, from the very first round of the Alexander fight, Witter didn't look quite like the fighter that he once was. He was slower, less accurate and less active than before. In the post-fight interview, Witter claimed that his elbow got injured so he thought the best thing to do was retire from the bout because he was effectively fighting with one hand. If that's true, I can accept the explanation again but I suspect that Witter's age has caught up with him now and he may no longer be able to compete successfully at the high level he once was fought at.
It's difficult to know for sure, after all the Showtime commentators completely ignored Witter's claim of an injured elbow and just assumed Alexander was too much for Witter. I think that was a slight injustice to the man, to not even acknowledge that he said he was injured, but of course it is to be expected considering the element of patriotism which can always threaten to cloud a boxing fans judgement.
What do you think?
In his fight prior to last night he had a look in his eye like he didn't know what to do anymore. Never been a fan but wish he won last night but time for him to hang them up now.
Witter was a good fighter he had some bad luck not landing the right fights...But
He isn't as good as he thought he was, for me he was a little bit like a poor man's zab. Whenever he came up against good fighters and they took his best shots and kept coming he normally struggled to a decision or lost the fight. Against world class fighters he can be extremely dangerous for 4 rounds or so as he does possess power and speed and throws dangerous uppercuts but after that against good fighters he would get picked off and outboxed.
I always felt Billy Graham analysed a fight between witter and hatton perfectly, he called witter a "4 round fighter", I agree with this if they fought prime vs prime, witter would be dangerous for the first 4-5 rounds and he may catch ricky and even put him on queer street, but hatton would take over in the middle rounds and start wearing him down to a decision or late tko.
Witter will fight on. Whether he will ever admit he lost to the better man we may have to wait forever for it.
Whenever he loses he seems to make an excuse. But now he is old im feeling sorry for him. I hate it when father time catches up with you. Reminds you of you own mortality.
he wasn't on game, he's too old. alexander had too much for him, i had alexander 3 rounds ahead and imo it was a matter of time before witter go knocked-down / KO'd.. He probably did hurt his elbow but he should have carried on. Oh well at least it was a pretty decent pay day for him. No way he's gonna get a fight with Khan now! Witter should retire.
I just can't believe judges gave alexander every round, i knew from the get go witter had to knock the guy out to win cuz he sure as hell won't winnin a decision
This just makes me think even more - why did Hatton ever duck this guy? He would've mauled him out of there worse than Tszyu.
Except everyone would've loved it and never complained.
in his prime witter was way more dangerous and elusive than he is now. IDK what is wrong with him, he can't fight 12 full rounds anymore, and it seems his corner is incapable of telling him what is and what isn't working. He should take one last run at the title, Replace everyone in his corner and if that don't work, then retire.

there is no doubt witter is past it but the fight was very close. i had alexander up by a round. alexander is a sold fighter but i wouldn't doubt the injury at all.
Agreed.I had Alexander up 77-75 but it was a very messy affair, hard to score except the rounds Alexander landed the monster blows and worked the jab.Witter is very awkward.
Don't think Alexander will be really good but this is a good wiun for him and he can build on it.
The real reason is this: junior Witter was never very good to begin with and based his career on shooting of his mouth and fighting nobodies, in his entire career he faced 4 world level fighters and lost to three of them.

I say shit break. When the shitter Witter has to go, he gotta go! You could see it in his face - every time he backpedalled, he was trying to hold in a huge loaf. In the end, he could hold it no longer and had to shit... erm, quit.
Don't shit on him for it. It's only Human Nature. AAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!! http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/6061/michaeljackson.gif
Junior the hitter Witter is now Junior the quitter Hitter.
All this mouthing off against Khan and now is he beltless.
I prefer Junior the Switich Hitter Quitter Witter but i like your watered down version...
