If Manny Pacquiao wants their November 14 fight to be a title fight, Miguel Cotto said the Filipino has to agree to meet him at the welterweight limit of 147 lbs.
In the event that the fight would get into trouble with the World Boxing Organization (WBO), the Puerto Rican reiterated that he is willing to vacate the throne.
“If Pacquiao wants that the fight be for the title, (it) will have to be in 147 pounds. I won the title in that, the welterweight (division) and that is 147 pounds,” Cotto told the Primera Hora newspaper yesterday during the launch of his clothing line.
Cotto, the reigning WBO welter champion, stressed that the issue of the title was not raised during the negotiations with the Pacquiao camp.
Top Rank head Bob Arum echoed Cotto’s statement.
“No,” said Arum, when asked if Pacquio’s people raised the matter of Cotto’s WBO title during the negotiations.
“The weight of 145 pounds is not a category. If the OMB (WBO) is having a problem with my decision (not to stake it), I will gladly hand over the title. I do not have problems with that,” said Cotto, who was represented during the negotiations by Gabriel Penagaricano, one of boxing’s premiere lawyers.
“The OMB (WBO) has the legal authority to dismiss me as champion and gladly I deliver them the title. (WBO president) PacoValccel, better than nobody, knows that the 145 pounds is not a division,” added Cotto, who beat Joshua Clottey in his last outing last June.
Exactly, what I was saying all along! WTF, is Pacboy thinking?
Hey Trekas...
I'm going to Bradley/Campbell.
I'll be the tall, dark and handsome fellow w/ the big titty g/f with a penis and balls.
Fixed it for you..:hijacked:
Desperate little boy, sounds right to me! :439: :haha:
If he such a little guy.. Why is he fighting Cotto? Pac has bigger balls moving up 2 weight class to fight Cotto then Cotto moving down 2 pounds and putting the belt on the line..
This is stupid. Does Cotto think people will consider him a champ if he loses? Might as well lose the title like a man.
It's like he's doing this out of nothing but pride, like he just hates the concessions that he made to Pac. But this is just impractical.
Cotto is FULL OF PRIDE. That's his whole thing man. If you haven't realized this already then you clearly know nothing about him. **** Pacquiao's little bullshit catchweight and all his other stipulations. Cotto is doing the right thing on this one.
well tbh manny aint steppin in the ring as a full welter look wat he did in the oscar fight he was at 142.... if this shit happens 4 the title then maybe manny will do 147
If Manny gets hit with a combo like JMM did in your sig,
good night.
People don't realize that Cotto has been tagged by much larger men, whereas Manny hasn't.
I'm not sure it's just his advisors, it's the Philippine people themselves.
They want to see history be made but it's going to take a sacrifice from Manny, that I'm not sure, he'll take..He would prefer to have his cake and eat it too.
I'm all with doing the best with what we have!!!!
So lets do the damn thing at 145.
Yeah, but the Filipinos have no control over Manny, it's Roach, Arum and his lawyer Gacal. Manny always comes to fight regardless of who is in front of him and at what weight.
Cotto is admirable for being so principled. A true warrior whose dignity and pride shouldn't be questioned. I'm sure Pac is the same. As much as I hate this fight happening at a catchweight, let's get this thing done at 145. Miguel has conceded enough, don't push for a title if you're not willing to fight him at 147.

you know why cotto doesnt want to put his TITLE on the line?
Its because he's not confident enough that he will beat the PAC
He's too afrain he might loose it to a LW
That not right, he already talk that he don't really care about the title, he can return the title to the WBO at any time.
You know when 2 pounds is a big deal? When you are a premature infant besides that I don't really know when 2 pounds became a big deal as it is in this fight. To me the belt should not be on the line unless the Champ agrees to it. The Champ being Miguel Cotto. I understand the WW limit is 141-147 and the fight falls with in that range but since when does the Champ need to be forced in on the challengers terms. I wish Cotto had just fought Mosley at 147 in a rematch and said fcuk PAC and his stupid two pounds....Lefty
Exactly. Here's the fight I want: Ivan "Ironboy" Calderon against Vlad Klitchko. Here are the terms. The catch weight is 120lbs and it has to be for Klitch's HW belts... and Ivan gets 65-35 split too. Make it Happen!!!

This is pathetic on Manny's team!!! I want Manny to win but if he didn't agree to have the belt on the line then fuuck it no belt!!! Now team PacMan wants the belt to be on the line well step up to the plate little man and meet Cotto at 147!!! WAR COTTO
No, if he loses the fight, he loses at a weight that isn't at the welterweight limit.
Manny agreed to the fight at 145 the same as Miguel, with no title on the line.
There it is. Thank you sir
It's Cotto who agreed to fight at 145. If he loses the fight, he's just going to be a paper Champion anyway. He just made 146 in his last fight. If it were 143-144, I'd understand. But he and his trainer said they could make 145 and they agreed on the weight. If he feels he's at a disadvantage then he shouldn't agree to fight.

No one said that Cotto won't fight at 145...It's the "I also want the title on the line" from the Pac camp that he doesn't agree on.
It's important for Pacquiao's camp and especially Arum to promote this fight as a 7th title for Pac. So Cotto's got some leverage. It's a smart business move. I'm just saying, it's not worth losing the fight over.
Not only Manny won't do it, Cotto won't do it either!!
Cotto is a man of "principle" that comes from Caguas, the land of principle!!
Indeed my man...indeed
I just think it's ridiculous, the amount of stipulations and rules they want. They want it all. Period. All the while putting their fighter in the best position to take every advantage. Manny is BAD, the BADDEST...then stfu and fight at 147 for the title. Or leave the fight as agreed upon. :boxing:

Too much crying about this going on. WW limit = 147. Champ is Cotto. You want his belt. And you're telling him he's got to put up his title at 145? gtfo
How bout this Manny. I'll fight you at 145lbs and put my title at 147 BUT you give me 50/50 of the split.
How you like that
