Vernon Forrest interview earlier in the year about his plans and love to Mosley
GL: What's the latest and greatest with V. Forrest, and when can we expect you back in the ring? "We're looking to get back in the ring in March or April, I'm not sure exactly who yet. We're closing on a couple of guys, so it looks good."
GL: The last time we spoke was before the Mosley-Margarito fight. Can you give us some thoughts on Mosley's performance against Margarito?
Vernon Forrest: Aw, man, that was spectacular. I'm a fan of Shane Mosley, and he epitomizes boxing with the performance he had. That is what boxing is all about. He did great, he represented himself, and he represented the sport and the technique of boxing. I thought it was his best performance ever.
GL: With that being said, does Mosley give Vernon Forrest more trouble than ever before in a 154 pound fight?
VF: People keep asking me about that fight. We've had three spectacular fights, if you go back to the amatuers. He doesn't have anything to prove to me, and I don't have anything to prove to him. I don't think another fight is warranted. It's funny, to me it's always fascinating that people always bring up my name when it comes to Shane. As though I'm the only one that has a win on him, he also lost to Winky twice. We both beat him twice, but no one ever brings up Winky's name. Cotto has a win on him, and people rarely bring up his name, but they always bring up my name. It's fascinating to me that my name always comes up when people talk about Shane Mosley.
GL: Do you have an idea of who you're fighting next, and what network it's going to take place on?
VF: We're looking at, I think, Showtime for this fight. We're real close to gettting a guys name on the dotted line. Once we get that name, I'll let you know.
GL: So, you have ideas, but you don't want to share them, in other words.
VF: It's always like that.
GL: What are your goals for 2009, will you unify title this year?
VF: I'm looking for a very big year in '09, and I'm going to do some great things. I'm looking forward to some great performances.
GL: Closing thoughts.
VF: To my fans, the Mosley fight was the epitomy of what boxing is about. Boxing is about technique, ring generalship, speed, and power. Mosley epitomizes all of that in his last fight. People like to equate boxing to that MMA stuff, but boxing is all about technique. We spend hours and hours, years and years of training to perfect those techniques. That's how a guy like Mosley can get in there and put on a spectacular performance, in a fight that no one gave him a chance of winning, including myself. He came out with a spectacular victory, and my hat goes off to him.
