Wanderlei Silva vs Michael Bisping headlining in England. This fight don't stand a chance against Pacquiao vs Cotto. Dana White is definitely losing this one.
2 L's in a row is not a good look. Mayweather-Marquez will do 500-600k, UFC will do 300-400k. Cotto-Pacquiao might break a millie, if that shit is the main event, they'll be getting 400-550k
Mayweather vs Marquez won't make 500k+ buys.
Only in the UFC will a guy who got KTFO badly headline the next card. Garbage.
Just basing his popularity on his last fight is ridiculous. No one survives a Hendo Haymaker. It too damn deceptive. Sure, Bisping should have taken great care and watched for it, but to say that he doesn't have any right to headline again based on being put down by it is retarded.
If we go by your criteria, Wanderlei shouldn't be there either because he got starched by the Haymaker too.
UFC schedules their events way ahead of time, as do most MMA organizations. Difference since the promotion makes the fights with fighters in the same org vs fighters making fights with each other in boxing.
You know the ones who usually harp on a subject are the ones most afraid.
There is no way that the 105 card would compete with Pac/Coto. The numbers for that challenge isn't really going to be there mainly due to the live feed being on when everybody is working or visiting folks. Even the sports pubs won't put up the 10 PM replay. Euro cards draw some decent numbers but it's nothing to crow about. The card will probably be cozy as well.
I'm happy that Pac/Coto will do gangbusters. I really am. To celebrate it as a victory over MMA however is like celebrating your victory over invaders because you forced them to take the mountain path.
ufc 100 did 1.5 million PPV buys
that cannot be ignored
No one outside Oscar has ever done that in boxing
UFC 100 did that because it was like having Paq/DLH, Mayweather/Hatton and Cotto/Marg all on the same card. They won't see a number like that for a VERY VERY long time, that card was absolutely stacked. Bisping headlining a card isn't going to break 400k even in the UK with the last KO he suffered. Its the same thing if Hatton was going to headline a card, the buys would suck because he looked like complete garbage in his last fight, as did Silva for that matter. Essentially they just put two guys in a rebound fight, its not going to do well at all.
Tyson-Holyfield (rematch) did 1.99 Million US buys, Tyson-Lewis did 1.97 million US buys and huge numbers in the UK too, Tyson-Holyfield (first fight) 1.59 millions US buys, Foreman-Holyfield 1.4 million US buys, Holyfield-Lewis 1.2 millions buys
Tell me Oscar is the only one that has come close to 1.5 Million US buys?
You forgot Mayweather-Hatton doing 1.2-1.3 million in the UK and 900k+ in the US. MMgay fans have selective memory.

cotto pac will break a milli
I don't really see a problem because as people have said before, this is on ****e for free, broadcasting from England and will be on US TV around 4 or 5 PM, so it will not compete with Pacquiao-Cotto.
but if americans have to pay for both events (which im sure will be the case) a lot of casual fans will pick one or the other. I dont see Bisping v Silva (dont think thats even confirmed but im sure bisping will fight someone as its in the UK) beating Pac Cotto, depends a lot on the UFC undercard.
We already know the Pac Cotto undercard will be pretty shit.
Come to think of it, I was watching Jeopardy's Thursday edition which I DVRed, and "Pugilism" was one of the categories. It was the double jeopardy round and the $2000 question or the last question in that catergory was, "After "Dancing" in the ring with Oscar De La Hoya, this welterweight champ danced on "Dancing With The Stars", and guess what? Nobody even dared to buzz in. We are talking about three people here who is so diverse in their studies, hobbies, interests and must have covered more reading materials than most of us here and nobody knew who Floyd was!
That made me ponder...
i am not surprised. most people who don't watch boxing do not know who mayweather is. All they know is tyson and Ali.
So the Uk heads get the best of both worlds cuz not only can you watch the UFC 105 Which will be on around 8pm and finish up close to 12 we get to flip over around 2am for the Cotto/Pac fight so dont miss a thing...
