why aren't pr boxers allowed in the olympics?

pretty simple really, boxing is brutal compared to soccer-swimming and all that stuff. Boxing people get hurt. that can't be a contributing factor surely? could quite easily make pros wear headguards if they were allowed to fight might get to see the klitschkos fight each other too

it has to do with the violent nature of boxing opposed to the other sports.

This is coming from college knowledge of last year, but i seem to remember my sport science teacher saying that at some point (dates escape me) all sports were given the choice whether to allow pro athletes into the olympics (bearing in mind before that it HAD to be amatuer in all sports). Why boxing decided to not allow pro boxers onto the worlds biggest stage, showing the best that boxing has to offer fighting each other i will never know. also who made that decision? especially in such a fragmented sport like boxing? Well ive managed to create more questions than answers but hey hopefully someone who actually paid attention in lessons can help us out. right, so it was down to each sports governing bodies then? suppose the sanctioning bodies, promoters etc dont want all their best fighters tied up in non-paid intense fighting during the summer every 4 years

Once you turn pro you can't fight as an amateur anymore those are the rules...it's as simple as that. Ruslan Chagaev fought amateur after turning pro.

Because it wouldnt be fair for pro boxers to bully amateurs that are mostly under 20 years old. but thats my point. all the pro football and basketball players are allowed to play, why is boxing amatuer only?
