The size difference is a reality, but Marquez is a world class fighter. So to me, it is an A-level win. But I want to see Mayweather go on and do more meaningful things if he beats JMM like fight Shane Mosley or even Paul Williams and not just go into retirement.
So if JMM is an A-class win what grade would you give a win over SSM, Cotto or Williams?

I think it is without doubt a B class win. I understand the size advantage Floyd has but JMM is still a top p4per and a win over him will add value to Floyd's resume.
Its not up there with the De la Hoya, Hatton, Corrales and Castillo wins IMO, but it isn't too far off.
Glad you understand :D
I'll also admit, like S.G said, fighters would look to have an advantage.
Cool. :fing02:
It also devalues a fight that could have been a great win to a mediocre one. Of course the value of a win for JMM is on the other hand vastly improved.
Fair enough. I just don't put much validity into unofficial weights governed by a broadcaster and probably done with clothes on and on a bathroom weight.
The thing that matters is what they weigh at the official weigh in. That's the rules.

both recent instances where he might've fought at JWW (Hatton and JMM) he chose to fight above it for the sake of asserting power, fishing for an advantage simply because he can.
Hatton was challenging Mayweather, not the other way around, thus he made the compromises
Marquez doesn't hold too many bargaining chips, thus he made the majority of the compromise
it may not sit well with you, but this is boxing, shit happens. Floyd's just playing the game... he won't take responsibility for the sacrifice when he doesn't need to, just for the sake of being a gentleman. it's naive to assume that he, or any other boxer, would
I agree that it's to gain every kind of advantage that he can. I also posted that earlier. I have no problem with that other than it devalues his win.
BattlingNelson, what I'm saying here is that, the size difference between the two isn't that big. You on the other hand are looking at it from a different perspective. Your thing is, "JMM is jumping up two divisions, this is a mismatch!". I mean pay a little attention, an example, a 3rd fight between JMM and Pacquiao, wouldn't Pacquiao come into the ring weighing 148? I know, you don't want me to switch the subject but this is only an example.
How could a 147-148 Mayweather be such a mismatch in size to JMM and not a 147-148 Pacquiao?
I understand that because a fighter fights in a certain division then he should be labeled as that. Just remember, I'm talking about size here. You view it as Marquez fighting a WW, because Mayweather campaigns there, I view it as Marquez facing a Jr WW, because that is more Mayweather's natural size in my opinion and he'll come into the ring, weighing as a Jr WW should weight.

Naah. I'll slightly refrase the question: Why do you think Floyd doesn't fight JMM at a more reasonable catchweight?

I'm 100% sure he can make 140. I'm sure your gonna ask me a 3rd time, "Why doesn't he fight at 140?", and again, I'll give you the same answer.

What's size? Height?
Don't kid yourself. Floyd cannot make 140. He's a legit welter.

i think Dominicano is mostly referring to Mayweather's size
that is, he rehydrates to around 147-149lbs, which is generally the size of a modern junior welterweight come fight night
But floyd will not fight at JWW these days. And hasn't done so for 4 years.

Someone got it!
Thanks
I'm talking about his size here. Ofcourse your gonna be labeled whatever division you fight in but I'm talking about his size. Still confused? I wouldn't call Floyd a natural WW, he is more a Jr WW to me.
You should have atleast known what I was talking about.

Please don't jack the thread in another diretcion. It's about Floyd-JMM and not Pac-Cotto.
So even if Floyd fights welters, wants to fight welters and has fought welters for the past 4 years he isn't a welter?

Just like Pacquiao who isn't a WW but is fighting Cotto at WW?

You were saying that Floyd isn't a WW yet fights at WW and want's to fight WW. Contradictions.
Floyd IS a legit WW and has fought at or above that weight for the last 4 years.
