I'm just laughing at the people on here who treat Hopkins like a god and at the same time discredit Calzaghe's resume. I admitt Hopkins fought the slightly better opposition but he also lost 4 times and drew with a random guy!
lets look at what they have both done shall we?

The Ring magazine Super Middleweight champion
The Ring magazine Light Heavyweight champion
WBA,WBC,WBO and IBF unified champion

Very similar records and if Hopkins didn't continue fighting until 44 and retired aged 36 like Joe he would only have Johnson and Trinidad on his notable wins list!
i never said joe is a bum. he is a great fighter. i mean even though i thought BHop won, joe gave him one hell of a fight. how could i say hokins is a legend and joe a bum? but i think Hopkins is a step above him as far as legacy goes. i still very much respect jhoes accomplishments. becoming undisputed champ aint easy.
and it is true, i can admit when im wrong. i had cintron to knock out margarito in 5 in their rematch ffs. instead tony ripped cintrons balls of and clubbed him half to death with em.
ha ha...that he did.
Oh and I never said you said Joe was a bum...my comments weren't aimed at you either, just boxing fans who really are people fans...
I just wanted to know what you thought before the lacy fight
If thats true then fair enough...I'm not going to be delusional and say that Calzaghes resume is better than Hopkins' cos it's not...you can pick at things all day to make the fights sound unfair and make his resume look better than his etc...
I don't know why people still do it...
Why can't people just like both boxers instead of just wanting to hold one boxers penis...?

its called hype son. who had he beaten to "earn" such credentials?
i mean seriously, just cuz the american hype machine was running full blast doesnt mean i shoudl act liek joe slayed a monster when in reality he beat a slow, one dimensional, average fighter.
i never praise a fighter as the next anything until he proved himself. lacy never did so i aint forgot shit.
me?
i picked calzaghe. like i said, u have to beat somebody to be somebody. even though he was past his best eubank was still game. lacy found all his oponents in the canned goods department at the supermarket. if u pick someone like that u are just guessing. he might be someone, but theres no way to tell. joe we knew was atleast a worthy titlist.

what about pavlik?
miranda and taylor.
miranda acctually has a better resume than lacy, much better tbh. allan green and howard eastman.
taylor proved he was quality with the way he pushed wright and hopkins. even though i gave hopkins both fights he gave BHop problems, something we had not seen in years at the time. kassim ouma could move up to 168 and beat jeff lacy btw..
also he worked his way up to a shot lie hopkins, even remaining undefeated. not like most ppl who get an easy road.
It's funny because both fighters careers have gone similar ways like both making loads of defenses of their titles, being the underdogs in their biggest fights and winning them in excellent fashion, etc.
I personally think though, that although there careers have panned out similar, Hopkins fought the better level of competition in his career and has the more notable wins on his resume plus what he has been able to do past 40 has been tremendous.
Calzaghe is a great fighter in my mind, but when it's all done and dusted, Hopkins should and will be rated higher than Calzaghe based on the fact he has more notable wins on his resume and he will get alot of credit for being able to fight so effectively into his early 40's.
so who did you think was going to win the lacy fight then?
me?

eric harding beating kessler ...........
who has kessler beat? im half swedish, i live right by the danish border. have been there several times. we dont get many top scandinavian fighters so i somewhat claim him. even so, i dont see why hes anything special. he aint beat nobody, and just watching him im not impressed. ppl act like hes some monster based on nothing.
wait for the tournament, thats all i can say. dirrell is gon box circles around him, abraham is gon knock him out and i wouldnt be surprised if froch and even taylor and ward beat his ass too. (thats right, everyone)

I love how quickly people forget
Lacy might be a bum NOW.. but he wasn't a BUM when before he fought Calzaghe..
In fact 80-90% of Experts, fans and Bookies had Lacy as the overwhelming favorite..
He was expected to starch JC by the 3rd round..
They called him Mini Tyson

shaun george, the one who got koed in his last fight by a bum? no kidding? roy is still a top 10 light heavyweight.
prime tarver? when was he in his prime? when he was weight drained against hopkins at 37 years old? so did hopkins actually fight a prime tarver? tarver is the same guy who jones could have beat in their 3rd fight if jones actually went for it, tarver was gassed silly against a "10%" jones in his fight before hopkins.
lacy was undoubtably overrated but keith holmes, come on! lol!
once again, what and who did trinidad beat at 160+.
i already answered that question.
have u ever seen holmes fight? im not saying hes a great win for hopkins, not at all. but hes a better fighter than lacy, thats all im saying.
based on what? roy hasnt had a good win at 175 since like 2002 ffs. and not a good win at all since 2003. the guy is washed up and then some.
terver was a good fighter, he destroyed eric harding for example. another guy who would humiliate jeff lacy, and would probably beat kessler too.
seriously man we get a calzaghe/hopkins thread every few days. it doesn't resolve anything at all.
imo calzaghe is the better fighter by far, is an ATG whereas hopkins is HOF, deserves to be higher in the rankings and has a better resume than alot of people give him credit for. (a prime robin reid would beat froch, the two andres and bute, fighters like mitchell and brewer would be top 5 SMW's today).
but im fed up of arguing for his credentials i think we should just agree to disagree.

he's a notable win for tarver and johnson so why not for calzaghe? infact exclude jones and johnson has beaten nobody besides tarver.
tarver's whole legacy is build on the jones wins too!
shaun george would knock jones out at this stage. so would about 5 or 6 other Lt HWs. joe would to if he hadnt clowned around so much.
i meant a prime tarver would beat kessler, he was never the same after the beating he took form hopkins. i mean look at their resumes ffs.
lol.. lacy never did shit. he was a decent looking guy, intelligent, nice guy with a US passport and a good punch. = $$$
he bever beat nobody to be considered a behemoth. watching him fight (including pre calzaghe) i have never been impressed with him. he got a easy road to title and knocked over some cans. very one dimensional, average fighter.

what did trinidad do at 160+ and who did he beat
what did lacy do his whole career?
what has kessler done? excuse me if beyer and andrade dont make me believe hes the next coming of ray robinson.
tito proved himself pre 160. and he was never small for the weight so even though his resume there isnt all that strong u still cant discredit him. his best performances were at 154, u cant dismiss him completely just one weight class higher.

Joe Calzaghe and Bernard Hopkins' resumes are very similar | BoxingScene Community
