People in general over-estimate their own abilities no matter what scenario they envision themselves in. This is part of the incredible power of the human ego.
Make no mistake about it, if you do not have ALOT of talent and ALOT of boxing training/fight experience, you are absolutely guaranteed to seek to the floor within a minute against a world class boxer, regardless of reach, height, weight or power advantage within reasonable limits.
I know how to box, I compete in the amateurs. I got royally spanked last season by a guy who won bronze medal in the junior world championship, the fight ended 14-3 after 4 rounds of me trying to find something that wasn't there.
Insane anger, good chin and good power is what got me through 4 rounds with him.
Anger because he nearly punched my head clean off with the first punch he landed (right hook). I went into the "you're dead, come here, bitch" mode and went after him.
While I've never experienced taking harder punches from anybody else, I don't think he ever experienced such an "easy target" being so damn persistent and stubborn.
He was very impressed by my determination afterwards, while I wasn't impressed at all.
Later I learned about that bronze medal in the jr. world championship and settled down with the fact that I just didn't stand any chance whatsoever, coming off a 4 year layoff due to a shoulder injury.
It seems to me that most fans of the sport have never boxed at all.
Everyone should try it, even though 92% of you will always suck :D
i would KILL myself to make 140. then although i know hes not currently a world champion, paulie malignaggi. he hits like a girl, and althought he is a good boxer i think he would struggle with my height and reach. im 6'3 & 1/2 and has some long as arms. not to mention i have HW power in both hands.
i would fight mayweather and hopkins at the same time because they are bums and i'd knock them out.
in all seriousness tho i'm 6ft and just come in at middleweight. Pavlik i'm coming for you.
I'd gladly step into the ring with the current champions at welterweight with 6 months of training to get my stamina up.
I'd get spanked for a few rounds before being stopped, but I'm a bloody hard puncher so at least I could convince myself that I had a puncher's chance.
Some of the smaller guys like Ricky Hatton and the like would be my only chance as I'm 5'11 and a strong puncher.
I wouldn't mind fighting any of those guys just for the fun of it.
Andriy Kotelnik at 140 pounds.
I obviously wouldn't win against him, but as Khan said, he is the poorest, worst world title holder there is right now.
Plus, I weigh about 150 pounds.
manny Pacquiao.
Just based on his sheer experience, I would love to be in the ring with someone who moves that fast.
I also got 35lbs on him 5 inches taller and 5 inches on my reach.
t would be great even in the midt of me getting rocked
i wouldn't care at least i can say i got in the ring with them :lol1:
I feel the excact same way. I would stand no chance at all, but I would have a memory of being in the ring with the best of the best.
id probably fight at 154 or 160.
at 160 id love to take on pavlik - coz lately i hat the guy and would love the chance to hit him......legally!!
at 154 id like to take on winky or clottey, i respect both fighters, winky might be awkward but in the pre match hype with clottey id tell him straight - 'you canot tek my ponches!!!'
I'm changing my answer, if i can stay in my weight class and fight any champ i would step into the ring with Momo Koseki 8-2-0 (2 KO) Women's WBC Jr Straw
