joe's only got 2 named fighters in his resume and theyre old when he beat them......im sorry...
I just name a bunch of fighters that were more than worthy of mentioning...your points makes no sense. I do remember Lacy being the new coming until Joe beat him like a red headed step child...and what about Kessler another opponent that Joe C starched with little difficulty...don't hate on the man he has fought very worthy opponents. And hell I'm Rican not even from the UK but I give credit where credit is due.
just the fights with mab, em, jmm alone makes him the fighter of the decade
I think Pacquiao definitely deserves some recognition for his wins and his moving through the divisions as well...but at the age that Hopkins is and still beating young lions like Pavlik to a pulp, who was supposed to be a one man recking crew...that deserves mad kudos in itself...but I think my vote would be Joe C. who's not on the list.
I tell you this right now...I'm not a Hopkins fan by no means but I respect what he has done since 2000. Also, where is Joe Calzaghe in this list??? He has beaten some great competition, lasted champ for over a decade, and retired undefeated even after fighting Bernard and Jones, Kessler, Lacy, Bika, Brewer, Sheika....not sure if he's not getting his props.
its really a 2 man race between that dude who is a 6 division champ (only 1 other man in history), 4 division lineal champ (only man in history), & has 6 wins vs 4 first ballot hall of famers
vs
that dude who made it rain with fake money in pure las vegas. okay wins vs genaro, castillo 2x, judah, oscar, hatton, corrales, gatti. sadly i dont see a great fighter in that resume.
winky dont belong there, & hopkins has no chance.
Hopkins best wins were all aginst blown up welterweights (oscar & tito), blown up junior middle in winky, antonio tarver, & a cacthweight fight @ 170 vs kelly pavlik.
Well in that case DLH was weight drained, Morales was washed up, and Barrera may have been past prime...
i got floyd still---pac is right behind him as far as accomplishments, but hopkins could take his spot---you people have to realize something---for people on here to pick pac but still say it's close between him and floyd says something about floyd's resume and achivements...floyd missed all of 2008, and will miss most of 2009, yet, he's still in the running...what does that say?
floyd beat coralles, castillo, gatti, de la hoya, hatton, judah, baldomir this decade...he is still undefeated and he dominated all of those champions with the exception of castillo and oscar, but he beat them convincingly(castillo 2nd fight of course)...he beat hatton when hatton was undefeated...if anything, floyd should have been the fighter of the year in 2005---because of dominant he was---and hatton openly ducked floyd---hatton beat kosta---who floyd called out---the fact that floyd called out hatton, kosta, winky, oscar, shane all in 2005 showed you how raw he was at 140...i din't hear hatton calling anybody out...floyd wanted all of these fights---this is when he was his most hungriest imo, at this weight---his performance against gatti trumps hatton's against kosta's...and he went on to knock hatton out...so, imo, floyd was the foy in 2005 also...i feel many believe this...but, that's neither here or there at ths point...this decade was amazing...floyd, pac, and hopkins achieved more than any otehr fighter imo...you seen floyd jump up 4 weight classes this decade and remain undefeated...that says something...and he did it in dominant fashion for the most part...winning legit titles in every weightclass he fought in...
How is Pac behind in accomplishments???? He's won more world titles in more weight classes. More lineal titles. More FOY awards. Spanned more weight classes. Accompllishments is a no brainer.
It says everything about Mayweathers talent that he's considered right behind Pac.

This is Ring Magazine 2000's Fighter of the Year so Far.
Where's Cotto
Pacquiao but if he loses to Cotto it does hurt his credentials...
I'd put Cotto in there before Winky...Cotto beat Zab, past prime Shane, Clottey, and Quintana...and Malignaggi and Torres are decent fighters.
Agree 100%

It should be a two between PBF and Pac.
Really, no BHOP? I can't see how he isn't in the running.

I voted Mayweather so far... This year and the next will be the judges though.
It's only this year. 2010 will be the start of a new decade.
Pacquiao is as of now, but Floyd could snatch it from him, all it would take is a Pacquiao loss while Floyd keeps winning or a Floyd victory in a head-to-head
It's closer than some might have you believe IMO.
Calzaghe should be there instead of Winky
It's close, I think even a pacman loss to Cotto and a Floyd win over jmm isn't enough to change it though. Both guys are only fighting once this year. Head to head would not count for this award unless it happened this year.
I suppose I could have slid Calzaghe in, but ah well no chance he wins it. I think its a 3man horse with pac/pbf/bhop
