I bet ain't noone got anything on me. Being deployed to iraq for 15 months and spending over a 1 thousand dollers on boxing dvd sites sent. then in the middle of a fightnight showing i did for a bunch of fight fans on vbc baghdad camp stryker in 2007, rockets came blowing up outside and everyone ran to the bunkers, i stayed on the ground with folding chairs piled over me watching oscar drop mayorga. good times
Tim Tomashek.. He's the guy with a pro license, who went to see Tommy Morrison Vs Herbie Hyde & Ray Mercer Vs Frank Bruno.. Due to a contractual dispute, the bill was scrapped at the last minute, & both UK fighters were withdrawn by their management.. Meanwhile, Tomashek was drinking beer in the lounge, when a panic stricken promoter (can't remember who) asked him to save the day, by coming in as a substitute to face Morrison, who was WBO champ at the time.. The purse offer was only a fraction of what had been offered to Hyde, & due to the situation, was no longer going to be for the title.. However... Tomashek decided that the show must go on, & inspite of only being a limited journeyman who was probably half pissed, got in the ring & took a pasting for 4 rounds.. Now if that aint a TRUE boxing fan, I don't know what is!
If I had known you were an MMA fan, I wouldn't have bothered!
No body in that sport would show this type of character...
to me a true boxing fan loves and supports the sport in all ways possible.
they tune in not just to see the p4p champ or a top 10 p4p champ...they watch FNF, versus, etc. they truly follow the sport to its depth. past present, and consider the future of the sport.
Its hard to define a true boxing fan...its much easier to describe what a true boxing fan isnt. someone who isnt a true fan only watches the biggest of events and only follows the biggest of names in the sport (ie. mayweather, de la hoya, etc) but couldnt tell you who someone like victor ortiz (for example) is.
every sport has em...the casual fans...the nfl fans that only watch the playoffs/superbowl or only tune in on rare occasions or isnt familiar with too many teams.
baseball fans that only watch the world series or follow the team thats favored to win the world series; etc.
the true boxing fan knows when the fights will be on no matter how big or small the name.
you know the type.
doesnt everyone?
Hey flickster...that guy in you sig looks like the real life version of Eiji Date...wtf????:wtf:
lmfao! really? It's hozumi hasegawa. I never considered that he looks like Eiji Date.
LOL, I was just thinking about making a thread like this, because you always hear people say "Us real boxing fans blah blah blah."
I think Spacey1991 got it right. "Real" boxing fans follow more than one fighter and would watch it even of their was no recognizable names on the cards, however long they stay watching it depends on how good the fight is LOL.
I mean, we find some fighters less exciting than others, and some people find fighters boring fair enough... but a proper Boxing fan should be a fan of the sport first and there favorite fighter second, we all have our favorites but IMO you should follow Boxing as a whole as well as that fighter.
I think most people who love the sport are a fan of a load of different fighters anyway, and also a fan of different styles... like I said some people find a style boring fair enough but most people who love the sport are a fan of more than one style anyway.
But I do agree with something somebody else said, that doesn't matter as long as you love the sport... if you love the sport regardless of what fighter or style you like that is enough to call yourself a proper Boxing fan.
So mainly if you love the sport, then you are a real Boxing fan IMO.
Someone from Brazil that ALWAYS is looking for streams to watch good fights.
P.S.
We don't have boxing transmitions in Brazil's regular TV since Acelino Freitas vs Joel Casamayor.
And we have a very talented boy coming to the world. His name is Alex Oliveira, a future world champion.
Define true boxing fan please.
"Fan (person) :
A fan, aficionado, or supporter is someone who has an intense, occasionally overwhelming liking and enthusiasm for a person (usually a celebrity), sporting club, group of persons, company, product, activity, work of art, idea, or trend. Fans of a particular thing or person constitute its fanbase or fandom. They often show their enthusiasm by starting a fan club, holding fan conventions, creating fanzines, writing fan mail, or promoting the object of their interest and attention.
In a few cases, individual fans may become so fascinated with the objects of their infatuation that they become obsessive. These fans engage in behaviors that are considered extreme or abnormal. This includes idolatry or other forms of worship, such as creating a personal shrine dedicated to the idol at one's home, and can sometimes extend to the point of the fans becoming stalkers. In sports, some fans take their enthusiasm for the team to the point of attacking fans of the opposing team (e.g., football hooliganism)..."

It seems that the word `fan`, if described as a `boxing fan`, can make up everything you would ever fear of or loath.
Adding the word `true` may make the meaning even more intense, or may just delineate from the meaning of the word `fan`.
someone who will watch telefutura even though they dont know spanish just to get their boxing fix
someone who tries to salespitch his friends on EVERY upcoming ppv :D
LOL!!!! thats me

If you watch more than just the mega star named fighters you're a real boxing fan.
The people I hate are the ones who but the big PPV of the year lets say Tyson vs Holyfield and talk out their ass about fighters from the past that they saw one or two fights of.
"Mike Tyson fights a lot like Shavers"
"Holyfield reminds me of Ali"
This sort of fan gets on my nerves!
I had a friend who would always mix Buster and Riddick Bowe up and try to tell me Tyson was overrated because of his loss to Riddick Bowe! WTFFFFFFFFFFF?
Im sure Tyson would have much rather lost to Big Daddy. Ask your friend if he has the Bowe-Tyson fight because I always wanted to see it.
Somebody who is a fan of the sport as a whole, we all have our favorites but real Boxing fans should be a fan of Boxing first... a real Boxing fan is where you like different styles of Boxing, different fighters.
A person who is willing to watch a fight when it is highly unlikely the fight will end in a KO. If you cant pass that basic requirement you are not a boxing fan in my book.
Boxing fans love the sport, supports its fighters, but are willing to debate and admit to criticism when necessary!!But it is plain to see when someone is just the fan of 1 person,or race, then try to justify their reasoning!!
